Location: Belleville, WI | Generally, I've found brand new reels to be way overlubed. A complete tear apart, wipe down, and re-application of oil/grease is a good idea. |

Use the reel for a week or two and do a complete tear down, clean out all the old grease and oil and relube, and U will see a big improvment in how the reel will cast and feel. I have seen alot of reels from the factory that is so over greased and oil, and once it gets in the drags washers your drag will not be smooth. |

| Generally I just use them as is and take them out of the box and start fishing. I have repaired and worked on thousands of reels and when it comes to fresh water I've seen A LOT more problems due to over lubrication than under lubrication. Over lubing them doesn't generally do any permanent damage but it can make an other wise smooth reel feel heavy when reeling, drags can go bad, and parts don't move like they should especially in the cold. |

| I think that some reels get quirky when engaging/disengaging the spool when over lubed.
Some companies are much worse about it than others too. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Right now I have 6 Toro NIB reels from 2 customers that I'm Cleaning out all the old grease and oil from the factory, and they pile in the grease from the factory at ABU. When I'm done they will be a total different reels, very smooth and be casting machines. |

| Used to just run them a season and then clean/oil them. It was like a whole new reel every time, even better than they way they worked out of the box. Seems to me the factory grease just goops up the whole inside of the reel. |
