Does anyone know about getting used and abused props rebuilt... or do you just throw them away?

Seems to me that the price of a new SS prop would still make a repair/rebuild a more economical option. The price of aluminum props have come down so far that your not saving nearly as much by repairing as you once did, if at all depending on what your prop shop is now charging.

A couple years ago I had a brain fart trolling and smacked a reef with the kicker. The aluminum prop was dinged beyond use so I put on the spare to finish the trip. Got back and got the prop repaired for less than $50. So, it was worth it for me.

It would depend on a lot of things from what I've read. If you throw a blade on a stainless prop you are pretty much screwed. If you just mangle the blades a little then a repair is an option.

Yeah you throw them away on my front porch. lol. No seriously though I spun my prop hub and had a couple dents and dings in my prop. I paid to have the prop fully reconditioned for $120 for my stainless Mercury prop. I also got to choose what I wanted the pitch on my prop to be. I took mine from a 21 to a 23 pitch prop. When you get them back they look new or at least mine did.

“When you get them back they look new or at least mine did.” True. If I’m not mistaken you can only get them refurbished a number of times (something to keep in mind). My dad’s boat and mine haven’t seen new props in years.

MD,

There is a company down the road from me about 25min that does nothing but prop work and prop sales. W&L Prop is the company and they have worked on many of my props (I river fish and work them over pretty well). They always look like new and they are very affordable. Here is their numbers 540-297-8351 or 540-520-9238 (cell). They are here in VA, but ship everywhere. Family owned and operated, and I absolutely have NO affiliation with them period, other than them giving me excellent service over the years.
