For those who use trinidads ... what braided line do you recommend and how far should you fill the reel.

I use Tuf-line plus 80 or 100# due to the fact it holds it's shape and stacks better on the spool than any other line for that application. I've tried Spiderwire, Bronzeback, Firewire, Sufix, and Power-pro, and the Tuf-line works the best on the tinidad. IMO

I'm with Jerry on thsi one. I have tried Suffix and MasterBraid and have gravitated to Tuf-Line 100# and its by far the best. I still use those other braids on other reels (I've caugh more fish over the years on Masterbriad than anything) they just dont work as well on the Trinidad as the Tuf-Line

Interesting. I ordered a 16N from Thorne's last year and they shipped it with 100 pound MasterBraid without me asking for it. Maybe I'll put that line on a different reel and order some Tuf-Line.

Do you have any tips to reduce the amount of backlashes? I have tried using it 3 times and I get a backlash ever 10-15 casts. I can go weeks without getting a backlash with a regular baitcaster.

1- The line has to be on the spool tight, VERY VERY TIGHT
2- Use 100lb round line, I use VICIOUS Braid
3- Fill spool about 75%
4- Use baits that pull hard, so line will stay tight on spool.
5- Use a XH ROD not a XXH or a XXXH so the tip will flex on the cast.
6- Buy the NEW SHIMANO TRINIDAD 16NA !!!!! it has a narrow spool, also spool brakes& a cast control knob.

i use 80lb Masterbraid/Bronzeback, i spool it on normally, i spool it all the way full, and i even use it for ripping big baits like pounders without any issues. weird.

rather than chasing your tail trying to change lines or find some other magic answer, just keep a firmer thumb on the line during your casts and practice with it some more. three times out isn't all that much to get used to a new kind of reel. you'll get used to it with more use and be casting the way you want in no time.

THe biggest thing I think to minimizing backlashes is not rushing your cast. This in combination with an eduated thumb to slow things down when you do over do it is the key to sucess IMHO.

I have been using a 9' Avaio rod with it. Maybe it's too stiff of a rod? I think the line is fine as Thorne's put it on when I bought the reel.
