I'm just wonderin if anybody out there uses some of those newer swimbaits that have been coming out. Something like a Spro BBZ-1. I've always thought they were designed to catch more fisherman than fish, but I've recently heard people saying they've had success on them. If they actually catch fish I'd be interested in trying them just to add a new technique to my arsenal, so I'm just wondering if anybody out there uses them.

Haven't tried them but was thinking along the same lines as you were about them.

Lots of guys have been doing well with my Dingo lures in the shallows. Bring it in fast and the tail flips water as it breaks the surface.

I fish swimbaits a lot for the Tigers out here and have had good luck with the BBZ's in both 8" and the 6". A number of the bigger bass swimbaits work well.....Live Target, Tru Tungsten, Savage Gear as well as the paddle tail soft baits.

I fish both the hard and soft swimbaits from open until late fall. Use them in both shallow and deep water. Even if they aren't getting tooth marks every time they always seem to be bringing followers. Just yesterday I was putting new hooks on several of TI dingos. Reaction has a sunfish shaped one that the fish seem to really like too. Beyond these several of the hardbodies are too expensive for my blood.

don't go spro, go dingo...KILLER lure. Crank it straight, if you get a follow snap the handle and it'll spin 90-120 degrees back around...then BANG!

Jed of Bikini Bait company makes a killer swimbait. It will literally swim at any speed and can be made to do tricks like spin 180, glide, etc. If you ca get one, it is great.

The shadillac looks great too. It has a lip so depending on your own definition may or may not be a swimbait vs. crankbait. But who cares on what you call it when it looks that good in the water.

Swimbatits are great! Nate's Baits has a good variety of excellent hard body swimbaits. (10, 8, 6 in trout bodies) Shadillac is another good hard body. Bull Shad is great for a shad imitation.

The 9 in Shadzilla and the 6 in Berkley Hollow are great softbody swimbaits. Hard to go wrong with the Shadzilla. A Salt Shaker on jig works well too.

Then there's the Storm Kickin Minnow. Great bait. Introduced me to swimbaits for sure.

I'm planning on trying the SPRO baits this summer.

I second the Dingo swimbaits from Tackle industries. Great baits for shallow fishing. Done very well with them last year. Sweet lures.

In my opinion, there is nothing out there as realistic as a good hard swimbait. I am really surprised they haven't become far more popular with musky fisherman.

Here is a video of one I built:

The swimbaits I build are similar to those Nate builds..........only his are better! Nate builds one heck of a great lure and they are definitely musky tough.

I also have a Dingo and it makes a fine shallow water lure......
