I bought my '01 Tracker Targa 17WT in 2005 for $9500 (being a young engineer at the time but with a wife and 3 kids). Good rig for the money. Ya there's better out there but the price goes up along with its age. Good luck man...

Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | Exactly what sled said. I bought my r70 for $4500 and was able to put hd7's on it with the money I saved. Fishing waves over 2 1/2' can get hairy at times but I think it would in any 17' boat.

Location: Contrarian Island | i'd go with a Lund Pro V tiller or single console...10k you can get into a pretty decent rig really if you look ...spend a little less and make sure you have good batteries, trolling motor and gps/sonar...the boat is just a platform..the accessories will help put you on fish

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | Any recommendations on these? It seems like i can find tons of bass boats. I usually fish <3000 acre lakes. 1995, 1997 Ranger 487 VS Comanche 2002 Tracker Avalanche 2000 Javelin R20 DC 2000 RANGER R81

Posts: 1184 Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Try and find a S-135 Skeeter or 17' Tuffy , both great boats and will let you fish the small waters and still have the ability to fish big water, should be able to find either in your price range with money left for upgraded goodies.

Posts: 646 Location: In a shack in the woods | Out of that list I'd go with the r81. I fish put of a bass boat but I don't troll. I'm fishing leech, cass, and bemidji without problems but you have to use your head.

Posts: 574 | A deep-v aluminum or an old Ranger Fisherman is what I'd look for. Bass boats lack the storage I need for musky.. They're all typicaly deck and seats... Not sure a cooler and a musky sized tacklebox would even fit in most.. I found a couple 692 fisherman, and 1 690 fisherman for under 10k before I decided on somethng else not long ago. Can usually find a nice Alumacraft tiller too for close to that if you look a little. Not sure if a tiller was an option though. I'd personaly look at/for Alumacraft Magnums, Navigators, and Tournament Pros... Lund Pro-v, or Angler.. Champion fishhunter.. And I'd go with 18' or bigger... Size DOES matter...ha Good luck
