One of the guys said that he actually had trouble getting people to go Musky Fishing. I think that is true, it's too hard for most anglers. You have to concentrate on what your bait is doing. You have to keep your hooks sharp, line tight, your presentation so to this spot or that spot....etc... I have met a couple of guys up in the Leech area that want to fish Muskie's from being on this site. I think ther should be more open boat offers on the forums. I've never fished with someone I could not learn from so it seems obvious sharing the boat with more anglers is increasing the perspectives / chances to learn.

If anyone would be interested in going fishing with me this upcoming year let me know. I live in area code 47805 indiana. I will fish anywhere. Alot of times I have an open spot on my boat. I fish out of a 2000 pro craft, nice boat but not many people down in this part of indiana fish for muskie. I know of 4 people in this area that fish for muskie that is all. I mainly cast so not much sitting around drinking coffee all day. Give me a call at 812-691-0118 if your interested
Thanks
Daniel

IMHO the fact that's it's a low numbers game with a steep learning curve and high expense turns off alot of beginners. Many people won't stick with it after going stretches of time without catching anything. I consider myself a relative newbie to muskies and it can get discouraging when you're trying to figure out how to put everything together and catch fish.

That being said time in the boat with someone more experienced can do alot to lessen that learning curve and make things less intimidating for someone starting out. I believe another forum I've been on has a section for open seats and this could be a great way to help people connect.

I work in Hackensack 13 mi from leech. Out of the 80+ people that work there there's 3 hardcore fisherman. The other two besides me fish eyes. We share shacks during the winter but they want nothing to do with my boat come musky season. 95% of the people around here fish with a bobber and a beer. These people rarely catch a walleye let alone try to catch the top predator. The cost is another thing. They hear how much I pay for a rod and gasp granted I'm using all legends but that's where my priorities lay. During the summer there are a few people i fish with off here depending on what our schedules look like but I fish at least 3-5 nights a week and every weekend. I only have 2 pictures of me with fish this year because I'm always alone. One of them I made some beer and bobber guys that cut me off take.

For some fishermen its batter and fillets. For folks that graduated its the hunt.surveys have shown of all fishermen 18 per-cent chase musky.. in todays age if you have a friend that enjoys muskies your lucky . here on st clair it becomes a social outing chasing big girls

What a weird post. Who are "the guys"? Learning comes from time on the water.. I dunno, I guess I don't want whatever you're drinking, lol.

I couldn't agree more with this. I have a few very rookie friends that'll go with 1 weekend/year. But it is such a pain teaching them everything. Not too mention the lost fish on the inability to open the net.

God willing, I'll chase the big girls in '11. I'd love to get back on the water, I'll keep your offer in mind.

Well that was about what I expected would happen. It seems if you post on this board there is always someone willing to criticize you for it. Sad really. I shared a boat with 38 different people last year. Out of those (2) TWO were willing to stick with the Muskie fishing for any lenght of time and will go again. That's how hard it is to find someone that wants to fish Muskies & put up with the off times as well as the good ones.
Bob, lookin forward to getting back out next year. Waylon, if you can fish through what you we did last year you can fish through anything!! John, it's been what, 3 years....our schedules haven't meshed yet. But we will keep trying.
If anyone else is up Leech way or thinking about coming fishing up that way and are stuck alone....holler, let's see if it works. I don't care what your skill level is, I always have fun on the water and would rather go fishing than stay home and think about it!!

i know alot of hard core anglers but not one of them is interested in muskycost , time on water, the actual hunt, attention to detail... is more then most can handle just to see a fish, let alone boat it
3 yrs back my boat seat was occupied by more americans then canadians, funny because i have a cottage on prime musky water 1 hr from downtown ottawa , ontario and i live in ottawa
i'm believing it's me :), i'm starting to get a complex

we all have to admit that a musky man is a musky man for a reason, we are not normal, we see the water differently then most, are addicted to the hunt, are willing to work alot harder to attain results, deal with the cost......

but all said i still pound the waters for hrs on end, happy to see a fatty swim to the boat
