How much line do most of you put on reels. I am just trying to figure out if I could get 3 reels worth out of a 300yd roll. All Calcuttas. Thanks!

Probably 80# or 100# cortland masterbraid.

I spool up every reel with about 70% cheap 12 lb mono backing....then start spooling it with Cortland until I physically can't put any more line on it....line is rubbing against the reel frame....as in I can't turn the handle any more because the line is 100% against the reel frame. I then attach a heavy pulling bait like a double 10, or a purposefully made dawg ball and let out all the line, past the mono while driving the boat in idle. I then reel all the line in...and it is PERFECT...100% completely full with just a little room between the line and frame. Most guys, way more than 50%, of the people I fish with have way to little line on their spools. Don't waste all your line spooling up your reels...go to walmart and get the cheapest mono you can find and fill your reels with that...then put about 2 casts worth of line on your reels. You can very easily do 3 reels with 300 yards of braided line.

Why not wrap the arbor with cork? Never buy backing again.

300 yds I use to cut in two, 150 yds per spool (6500 series Abu Garcia) I'd reel it on, then fill it up with mono backing and then take it off and flip it and put it back on to complete the process. I think 100 yds is not enough unless you always make short casts, which I don't.

Then when you use that end up, you just flip the braid, to use the other end of the braid to get the most use out of it.

300yd spool, I can spool up 4 reels, 75 yds on each reel with mono backing.

Thanks guy's. I have to admit, as Hulbert said, I didn't have nearly enough line on my reels last year. I thought I put too much backing ,but clearly just not enough line. I'll put some more backing on , and really fill them up.
