Posts: 146 Location: where the fish are... | This year i recently got a go pro hd for fishing this year, I have alot of ideas for videos of things that only us musky fishermen get to see. I was wondering if anyone uses one and if anyone has suggestions or has seen some issues while using these style cameras. Thanks Tom

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Tom. Finally got one about a month into last season. I wish I would have had it at the start of the season as i had a couple unbelievable boat side strikes that would have made great shots. So much fun to go back and watch the strikes, follows and especially the missed blowups. Also I have a video record of any action my clients experienced while out with me and I edit a short highlight video for them after our outing. The only real drawback is the action needs to take place close to the boat for the real good video and you need to try and not face into the sun when possible. Also on windy days the audio is not the best. I'm still working on wind proofing the mic but haven't found the right solution yet. Rechargeable batteries are the deal as you burn through them fairly quick. I'm sure Steve will have some great advice and tips also. BTW I have the VIO POV 1.5 system. Chris

Posts: 32 | wearing the GP on your head actually sees way above your actual POV. I mean, it's POV, but like when I recorded myself playing tennis, you can barely see your hands/body when you look down because it's mounted those 4-5" higher than your eyes. AMAZING camera, and amazing price for what you get. For any Canadians on here, http://pointofviewcameras.ca/ has great customer service. One of mine broke within the first week of use, returned it, and they sent a replacement back the same week. You're missing out if you dont own one of these. Get a 16 or 32GB card though.... these things eat them alive

Posts: 32923 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The best out there is the POV 1.5, consistently rated as the toughest, and most reliable. The POV DVR runs on rechargeable double A batteries, and will give me about 4 hours straight without changing them out. I have about a dozen others I have tried, and all are basically pretty much the same product rebranded for the seller. Most are self contained...too many limitations for me on the amount of video you can shoot, and no loop function which is critical to record time and editing. Chris, a piece of open cell thin foam over the mic takes out the wind noise. Use a rubber band to hold it in place.

Posts: 281 Location: ROckford IL | I had one now for a full season and I can say that the POV 1.5 is the best head cam I have ever used, its very user friendly and when using the camera I usually get 4 or 5 hours of battery life out of 4 AA batteries when I run the head cam on loop mode. You can catch lots of little things on the head cam that you normally would not catch on a hand held camera. People act in a different way when they know they are getting filmed but when you got a head cam on they totally forget the thing is there. I love mine and only have one issue, the main issue is that the files don't seem to be compatible with final cut pro, you have to covert them into another format which is weird cause they are AVI files? but Final cut does not like them in the raw format for some reason, it may be something that I need to do but this is what I ran into and also Spencer Berman has the same issue. Spencer was the first one that showed me this head cam, he convinced me once i seen the footage he captured with it, good head cam for sure, I am not sure about the HD cameras, battery life would be my main concern.

attach it to the brim of your hat and it'll be closer to your actual POV. be prepared for somewhat disorienting video at times if you turn your ahead a lot when you look around...but once you start tracking a fish and stay focused on that, it's very cool.

Posts: 146 Location: where the fish are... | I truley plan on using this camera mounted in the boat at multiple locations, i.e top of motor front of boat ect. also i am working on a mount for a rod infront of the reel, I should really get some good shots this year

Posts: 101 | I've used the GoProHD for this last season and had alot of fun with it. I started out using the head strap but found that there is alot of movement in my head when I am out fishing. Mounted it to the boat and didn't have that issue anymore. I used it quite a bit river fishing and wished I would have purchased the chest mount as it got in the way ducking under trees along the shoreline. Image/video quality was top notch exept in very low light conditions such as before the sun comes up. Video tends to be a bit grainy due to lack of lumens. As bigman said there is a software issue with .mp4 files but after downloading some free software by a 3rd party online I don't have that issue anymore. Never got to use any of the other cameras personally but did a ton of research before buying. What really sold me on this besides the pricepoint was the ability to record underwater without purchasing something else. Made for some great release shots. I also did a little video for clients of their catches this year and the response from them was great. They loved being able to relive the moments. Worst part about using a camera fishing is remembering to bring it along, and turn it on. ![]()

Posts: 60 | I have a POV system that I have set up and only used once. Just found that I wanted to concentrate on fishing and not filming. If anyone wants to give this a whirl, I would be willing to let this outfit go at a reasonable price. email is sviltoft-AT-frontiernet.net. I am located in the Twin Cities. Steve Viltoft
