Location: Southern Ontario, Detroit River and Lake StClair | My son is looking for a new all around reel. He's currently using an ABU 6500 C3 but its needs to be replaced. I told him to hang tight and we'll find a couple of Toro's, Luna's or similar reels but he wants to buy something now with his own money. Any one use the Pflueger Trion 66? How do they hold up? I've heard some decent stuff about them on other sites for durability. I was also wondering if they are same reel as the Pete Maina reel BP sells?

Location: The Yahara Chain | Pflueger does make the Mania reel.
I have three of The Gander reels which were also made by Pflueger. They have went through three seasons and all I have done is lube them. They have taken tons of abuse. Gander doesn't sell it anymore but you would do well with the Bass Pro shops Mania or the 66 itself. Very durable reel. I put ABU power handles on mine. My only complaint was that I didn't like the handle. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Google FFO (fisherman's factory outlet) for a pflueger or Garcia reel. they sell new and reconditioned reels at a discount from MSRP. It is a direct outlet through Coleman or whoever owns the company now. There is one on there now for 75 bucks.

Location: Loves Park, IL | It really depends......I had one that the gears stripped in about 3 outings and another I have been using for over 3 years. A representative at Gander told me that they quit carrying them because they had a lot of issues with them in the last 2 years. So I guess it's a crap shoot with Pflueger.

Maybe he'll pick up one as well as my self and see how they go. Like I said I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. I know what ever he gets it won't be a Shimano.

Location: Medford, WI | Get the Trion (or Maina or Guide Series if you can find one). I've burned through quite a few reels, and have had two of these reels (1 GS and 1 Pflueger) for 3 years. They're my best reels by far! Also, these reels get used hard...probably over 100 full days each the past two years and 50 the year before those. I've recommended these to two friends and both of them have been more than happy with theirs.

| I have one that is going on 4 years old. All i have ever done is clean and lube it. I have a gander reel as well (made by Pflueger) same reel and its on its 3rd year. For a cheap reel, they are pretty #*^@ good. They don't cast as far, run as smooth as the expensive reels IMO, but they are worth the price. Certainly better than any abu 6500 i have.
i would not hesitate to get another. however, you can look at the Shimano Cardiff. For about $30 more it's a solid reel too. |

Location: Northern Wisconsin | i bought two of the gander 66's which are the exact same as the pflueger 66. One started to act up after a week so i brought it back for a full refund at gander but the other one is still going good and its been 3-4 years. |

I don't own any Pflueger's and have no real world experience to base an opinion on with these reels. I agree, no more Shimano.
All I have been using is Abu Garcia reels recently. Absolutely love my Revo Toro Winch. I'll be buying another in a High Speed for my jerkbait rod sometime in the new year.
What's wrong with the C3? Can it be fixed? Did you see all the info I posted on Skunked about servicing and cleaning?
Also Chartertalk has two AC250 and two AC300 St.Croix reels for sale. I used one for part of a season and the only reason I parted with it was that I am a lefty and couldn't get used to the right handed reel. Great smooth reel, bajaguy loves his too. These were/are based off the Daiwa Luna I believe. |

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Reports on that reel seem to be hit and miss. Keep in mind that parts are not easy to get (chuck cannot get parts anyway) therefore local serviceability is an issue. For relatively the sAme price he could replace that reel with an abu and it would be vastly more serviceable. |

| I also had a couple that both failed in less than a month that I cannot get repaired.
Tune up the Abu...every part is easily available and easy to fix. A lot of the replacement parts are upgrades to the production parts they use. No better value.
Otherwise save up and buy a revo, calcutta etc... |
