I will be up in Northern WI in November and have 2 days (11&12th) that I can sneak away and do some musky fishing. I know there are a ton of lakes but I've never fished the area and was looking for some advice/suggestions on where I might want to start this late in the year. Any info you can share here or via PM would be appreciated.

Boom would be my first choice, if you want clear water head West on route 8 about 15 min and try Cresent.

boom can be fickle in the fall ... think about julia, oneida, crescent ... and maybe the sugar camp chain. lots of good choices throughout the area.

good luck.

As Mr. Worrall said, Moen is also an option close to Rhinelander. I was up closing my cottage on the chain this past weekend and saw only one boat fishing musky in three days. Sure made me wish the place could be year round. Sunday was calm, sunny, no one was fishing. Really surprised me. I didn't get over to 4th and 5th but just the one boat I saw on the other lakes.

Just remember, like most lakes the dock has been taken out at the public landing.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Just got back from Rhinelander and had a decent 2 days. Took the advice and hit Cresent on Thursday. Seemed like a good choice in the morning with overcast and wind water was about 45. As the morning progressed the skies cleared and wind got up to around 20. Thought about heading to a darker lake but stuck it out - you guys weren't kidding about how clear Cresent is!. We drifted the breaks and green weed edges where we found them. Tossed rubber and glides and had suckers out. (finally found them @ Aquatic arts in Tomahawk) Got two pick ups on suckers right at dark. Lost one boatside - seemed like a smaller fish 34-35 that missed the hooks-the second picked up ran a few feet and dropped it. Both were in about 11 ft and tight to green weeds on the NE side of the lake. That was it for thursday. Friday we hit Julia. Wet snow/rain and overcast made us think about heading back to Cresent but we wanted to try a new lake. Drifted the weed edges and had a sucker go off 5minutes after moonrise. My buddy Pat set the hooks on a nice 39.5". Once again we were near green weeds in about 12' water on the E side of the lake. Nothing else for the rest of the day but still great to be out in November. Thanks again to all for the advice on Rhinelander lakes. I'll definitely be back next season to explore more of the lakes in the area.

Heading up this afternoon to spend the rest of the week fishing. Plan is to start on Oneida, but will hit two sisters (black lake) for sure before Sunday comes. Any other suggestions will be appreciated, I'm all about CPR so no worries there. Staying in the Tomahak area but willing to travel to hit the strange for a change.

Thanks,
Mike

This is the 39.5 we got from Julia. Any lakes with some green weeds left should be worth a try

Just reading up on a few others including Julia, never fished it so it's on my list. One that looks like I should try is Plum, I hear good things and never tried it. Kentuck is on the list and North Twin since I have the time to do some exploring, I expect to see some traffic with the deer hunting season in full swing. but these are the same folks who buy rounds at the bar at night. It's all good! I'll report back next week.

Well I got two. One on Onida (35") and one on Hancock (38). We fished Kentuck and North Twin on Saturday and it was frikken freezing. I lost the biggest fish of the year on Kentuck right at the net, I think my buddies got video of me fighting it, but this little piggy went wee wee wee all the way home before I could get all of her in the net. Hard to net solo when the net bag is frozen like the shape of the motor, at least for me it was. I tried to launch on two sisters, but with no dock and as shallow as it is there, I couldn't get close enough to shore to get in the boat. Then headed to SQRL and a car was blocking the launch. Wasted a 1/3 tank easy just driving on Friday before I decided to head back to Tomahawk area to get some fishing in instead of driving all over. Had all kinds of problems with reels freezing up and batteries losing a charge quick, but I had back ups. I went through every back up reel and battery on this trip.

North Twin is awesome and I will try again before it's all over. If it's open, with the very cold temps and even colder expected it might not be possible, so I will spend time in Billy Bobs drooling on the cute bartenders and waitresess if the water is frozen. Either way I'll get up on Friday again. Suckers are small and in Tomahawk, Aquatic arts is all but out, I found some at the BP station and Chucks so best to call ahead.
