Im considering getting started in making my own bucktails. I figure based on the prices of the materials, it looks like they can be made for about $5 per bucktail. Much better than the $9-11 they cost in stores.

Right now my favorite bucktails are the bucher's. So, when looking into building my own bucktails, I intend to build them very similarly. The only problem ive seen so far is, I cant seem to locate the coils that the hair is tied to on the bucher's. Is there any other system where the hair is tied to something that slides over the main wire? I really like the characteristics of the bucher's so I definitely want to keep the keel weight setup and was just wondering how everyone ties the bucktail when using keel weight.

Any suggestions/additional info would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Jaid, for the supplies you are looking for, check out staminainc.com and mooreslures.com they should have what you need.

Thanks ToddM,

I had stumbled across staminainc.com, and the ones they have would in fact probably work, but if at all possible I would like to have the weight separate (Id like to be able to use egg slip sinkers) from the coil. I requested a catalog from mooreslures.com, so ill have to see what they have to offer. Thanks again!

moore's lures have them in three or four sizes and with or without weights. Weights are round or keel weights.

Keel weights are available from MuskieE on the board here. Just place a post for him and he will let you know how much for how many. I tie on bicycle spoke nipples. They have a flare on one end and this really bushes out the hair when you wrap it down tight. Get a hand full of them and you will see what I mean. If you have a bicycle shop nearby they will probably give you all the old spokes you can use.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys! Sounds like there are lots of ways to skin the cat on this one! I have requested a catalog from moores, so failing everything else, it sounds like that will work. Thanks again!
