best place for suckers is Charlie Ross' ... as you go out toward the car dealerships on Stevens Street, take a left on Hwy. W which goes over boom (where it heads east toward "darkwater") ... past the country club and take a left on River road ... follow that about 3 miles and it's on your left. it's on the way out to pine harbor.

another good place is the Marathon Midway in Sugar Camp, but that's a couple miles out of town on 17.

good luck out there ...

tip ... best roast beef sandwich on the planet and a slice of Americanna is found at the Northwestern Hotel next to Mel's

Shell Gas station at Hwy K and Hwy 47 has suckers, I think they're $5 a pop. Take your chances buying there, the bait always looks kinda scuzy, lots of floaters. BP Gas station at Hwy 8 and Hwy 47 might have them, haven't been through there recently.

Gas stations mentioned suck this year. Between $5.00 and $5.50 a piece and you may find some legit 12 inchers. They say 14" but no way. Most are 10-11" and definetly not the good black river suckers.

Haven't bought suckers from the bait shop Steve mentioned......haven't been back when the guy counted out 36 crappie minnows last spring and I mean 36 on the button.

Haven't tried sled's place......honestly didn't know about.

Try Aquatic Arts in Tomahawk.. I'm thinking they wanted $6ea, but I never look anymore, I just pay the frikken tab and head out. My tabs are in the $75 to $100 range every time.. If you dont't like that then head right across the street to Charlies bait shop, they are going to be in the same price range. Everything I'm seeing looks to be farm raised by the looks of them, they just don't have that deep black back with a gold belly like the wild ones do.. Just a visual obs anyway...

Isn't the Fishing Hole still open? Picked some lucky ones up there once and the guy was great...even opened early for me.

I stopped a the bait shop at Judy's Twin Pines on Hwy C East of Rhinelander, right across from the road that leads to the landing on Moen Lake and they had muskie suckers. They have had trouble getting them this year, so might want to call first.
The liquor store on Hwy 17 in Rhinelander did not have any and didn't know when they would.

I used one this weekend and it worked well and lasted a long time but I managed to lose the fish right before I got it to the boat. I think I am so concerned about the muskie swallowing the hook, I don't leave them take it long enough. Oh well, just a long distance release.

On Saturday morning I got the last 5 good ones in town. Water is so high that traps aren't catching much. Definitely a good idea to bring some farmers up with you when you come.

Worked out ok so far, 6 fish in two days for us up to 48", with 4 on suckers 2 on artificials...fish relating to remaining green weeds on shallow lakes (deeper lakes are turning over, scuzzy stuff)

Hello guys! I work at Aquatic Arts here in Tomahawk, and our Musky Suckers are WILD not farm raised, hard to get for us this year because of water-levels. But, we are getting shipments 3 times a week at 50-75 suckers at a time, large are $6.00, Extra large are $6.50. Stop on By Sometime!!:))
