| So my father in law is working in Green Bay for the next month on a project and I was hoping to bring the boat up and fish for a weekend. My question is this, what do I need in addition to the already required items to fish on the bay? I am totaly legal for all inland waters, but am unsure about the great lakes. Thanks for the help. Location: Mayville, WI | Coast Guard approved life jacket for each occupant, one approved throwable flotation device, approved horn or whistle, signal flares (aerial or hand held) with expiration date that is good, and if your boat has an engine a good fire extinguisher.
Note that the flares need to be visible day & night. Some signaling devices are only good for day & some only at night. I'm still looking for the link that lays out all the rules.

| I don't know from experience but I've been told you also need a marine radio. Not sure if that is truly required though. |

A marine radio/VHF is not require until your boat is past a certain size (can't rember it, but 32' seems to stick out for some reason), so for the regular fisherman they aren't required. However, they are a great resource to have in case of emergency, you can't always count on your cell phone.

| No marine radio required that I know of.
Battery terminals must be covered, even if inside an enclosed compartment. I thought there was something different about that between inland and Great Lakes.
I believe you also need to have a audible safety device, like a horn or a whistle.
I'm having trouble finding a link to requirements as well. |
