I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on Joe Bucher's book, "Crankbait Secrets." Is it worth the read? Worth the cost? Thank you.

Read it many years ago and thought it was a good book. Learned alot that applied to all types of fishing, not just for muskie. I would recommend it.

Posts: 540 | it is a decent read but there is better musky stuff out there than that one! I was told by a musky guy to get it for sure and was expecting more musky stuff, I'd say 90% of it is based on walleye and bass! it is worth reading but don't expect alot of musky talk!

It don’t matter if you are fishing musky, bass, walleye, panfish, trout, etc… Just because specific chapters may not mention musky doesn’t mean what is contained within wouldn’t apply to musky. It is as simple as replacing “bass” with “musky” in the sentences.

I agree--It is a Good Book with lots of info---Crankbaits are good for so many species of fish that you can apply the tactics and tips in here to Musky,Walleye, Bass and others. Well worth the $$-- and I have gone back and looked at mine many times.

It is as simple as replacing “bass” with “musky” in the sentences. I totally agree with this. Heck, there are times I get more good info that I can apply to muskie fishing when I watch a show on redfish or striper than I do on muskie specific segments. This is a quality book. Read it with an open mind and apply the concepts instead of looking for something that says; "when chasing muskies do this, this, that, and this." There's too much of that monkey-see/monkey-do mindset and so many people are missing out on a ton of success by not looking at things through a different set of lenses.

Posts: 540 | Maybe I should have been more specific! In my opinion alot of things in the book did not apply to muskies in my opinion and were walleye and bass specific! I did say though that is was a decent read and worth reading!

I've taken a chance on the book. We'll see. Really what I wanted to read was Bucher's book on bucktail fishing, but that is out of print. Oh well...

And as has been said, don't just look for or read the stuff that says 'for Musky...'. Don't just read it in terms of crankin' either. By thinking beyond, you also open up your mind to transferring what is written into a great deal of knowledge about approach, location, and other baits. To me, it goes on the shelf with Muskies on the Shield as the two best pieces of literature on muskie fishing.

Posts: 433 Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | One of the very best books on fishing I've ever read. So much information is presented you need to read it multiple times. The problem is the book tells you what and how, but you still need to apply the information. It is one thing reading about working cranks but entirely different when you are the person at the controls. What sounds like a no-brainer when you read it sometimes takes many many hours to get right when you are on the water. Crankbaiting has a lot to do with feel and touch. You can read all you want but it still comes down to time on the water to get it right.
