| That's another thing -- gloves...
I carry two sets of fleece lined neoprene gloves with the thin polypro liners. They're bulky and your hands get tired from casting, but you can at least feel your fingers. Rain eventually runs up your arms and down into the gloves, but the neoprene keeps you somewhat warm. When one pair gets soaked, I'll switch to a second liner/neoprene combo. When that pair gets soaked, I'll change the liner. At the end of the day I turn them all inside out and dry them near whatever heat source/fire/etc is available and they're usually almost dry by morning.
For late fall trolling or sucker fishing, nothing beats the millitary issue green wool/leather glove combo. The leather gloves they have at Army Surplus are junk these days, so I've been using a pair of fur lined leather gloves I got at Kohls for like $20. The fur lining is nice because you can slide them on and off without taking the wool liner off.
I've tried mittens, fingerless wool gloves, ski gloves... Anything works as long as you keep it dry, but keepig your hands try when you're in and out of the livewell and it's been raining for three days just isn't possible.
No matter what you use, a few extra pairs in a ziplock bag can be a lifesaver! |
