Subject: Problems with clear coat "wrinkling"

painted a few biats these past days and after applying the createx, i went to spray on the clear coat. it was suggested to use regular auto clear to start then advance as needed. It seemed that every 2 out of 5 baits or so had a "curdling" effect shortly after the clear was on. It was then sugested to use outdoor ACRYLIC paint over the createx, just regular krylon indoor/outdoor. This seemeed to wotk better but still had a few area that wrinkled.

any suggestions on whats going on here? the baits that actually dont curdle look great, its just hard to strip the others down and strart from scratch

HEAT SET YOUR CREATEX PAINT WITH A HAIRDRYER

LIGHTER COATS ON YOUR AUTO CLEAR.. don't dip your baits in the clear..

TRY THIS METHOD SEE IF WORKS

1. PRIME FIRST

NasonĀ® 421-21TM 2K Urethane Primer

2. PAINT BAIT with Auto AIR BAITS BASE WHITE OR BASE BLACK

3. PAINT BAIT WITH YOUR CREATEX COLORS

DRY GOOD WITH HAIR DRYER THEN LET YOUR BAITS SIT OUT IN THE SUN FOR 24 to 48 hours...

4. CLEAR COAT WITH YOUR AUTOMOTIVE CLEAR...

Spary light tack coat.. wait about 10 to 15 mins....before you apply your 2nd coat!
The tack coat will help hold on your 2nd coat of clear and you will not need a drying wheel. Good luck hope this helps.

fogot to tell you scuff your baits with with 400 grit sand paper before you prime and wash them off with water and get the dust off them before you prime..

I tried putting clear coat over createx and had the same problem if it didn't dry first for a day or so. Next time try and spray on etex, then your clear coat.
I just use etex and not worry about the clear coat spray.

I only use Createx on a certain occasion and only had one wrinkle on me, Let them set and cure for at least two days than apply a "tack coat" then in a few minutes a medium coat and you should be good to go. You don't need to spin or revolve your lures when using auto two part clear. Only spray medium coats at the most and let them tack up before spraying again and you should be fine.
I hang all my lures to dry and never have to revolve them.

I make spinners and use nothing but Krylon primer and paints. I actually have had some wrinkling happen to blades, but not sure what from though. Maybe the humidity or something? I sand the metal first, wash then dry. prime and let dry for 3 hours, light sand then use a damp towel to wipe off. I then start my paint with a light first coat, wait five minutes then spray second. Clear coat the next day with light first coat, then second coat five minutes after. An hour or two later, depending on the humidity, I will put another clear coat on. After all said and done, usually three to four coats of clear on a blade. Sounds heavy, but works great and the color lasts a long time.

I had the same issue. Try waiting at least 12 hours before applying additional coats of auto clear.
