Location: Mayville, WI | Through unfortunate circumstances, I'm getting a new rod and, since Lamiglas hasn't let me down yet, I'm leaning toward the LGM-90-H or "Ricky Stick".
Anyone have one and can comment on it? Leaning towards D10s, mag dawg use.
I tried the search function, but kept getting some kind of error...

Location: Freedom, WI | I have 2, they will work with those choices but the rod works best with heavier baits and trolling (it is glass/graphite composite) and the handle is longer. I think a better choice would be the 8' 6" xxh, the 8'6 is my go to rod in Lamiglass. It is rated up to 6 ounces but I throw 8 fine ( I use it for my large HardHeads) and will also work for 6" gliders and double 10s. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | The Ricky Stick is soft (great for landing fish) and heavy (fatigue after casting all day).
I would not recommend it for Double 10's due to the soft tip. Mine has been demoted for use with small bucktails and spinnerbaits only.
Even with the extra long handle, it takes a ton of weight to balance properly too.

Location: Freedom, WI | I would not consider it soft but a slower taper ( I think that's what jlong means) but I think it handles more weight to cast farther, at least for me. I would not use it on double 10s but 10" crankbaits and gliders I do. |

| For what purpose would you rate the rods below then? (spinnerbaits, magdawgs, double 10, jerkbaits, topwaters, pounders, hardbaits)

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | I also would not use the Ricky Stick for double 10's. I use it for big cranks and big rubber.
Dennis both the 8'6" and 8' XH rods are good for everything. The 8' H rod is good for smaller cranks, twitchers, and bucktails. A great Tiger Tube rod as well. I don't own the 7'6" to comment but would assume it is similar to the 8'. |

| The 8'6" Lami is an awesome stick, I too throw hardheads with it, and love it.....except for double 10s and other super hard pulling baits.
The retrieve isn't so bad, but F8-ing a twin ten is very, very tiresome. You spend all your energy loading the rod up.
Otherwise, and awesome stick.
Casted the Ricky a few times, its definitely a big, heavy (er) rod.

| Have they changed the 8XH in the last few years? Mine is my go to rod, but it doesnt like double 10's, or mag dawgs even though its rated to 8 oz. It sounds like maybe they beefed them up in the last couple years?

Thanks Don't think they are different - looked into a replacement for an 86HF that went overboard this summer and they appeared to be the same rod. Ended up buying a used one that was exactly the same as what I had. The Lami 86 is my go to for any and all topwater. Also have been able to use it for jerkbaits due to the light construction of the rod. Love the softer action for fighting and landing fish. Muskies STICK to lamiglass rods and don't come off until they are in the net! |
