Looking at buying an EVX or another rod in this price range for throwing magnums with some pounders mixed in. What is everyones prefrence on action and rod length?

I have the 8'6 xh okuma, it is a great mag dawg rod but I don't own a pounder so can't comment on that.

I am a HUGE fan of the Okuma EVX-C-931H-T. Mag dawgs are handled very nicely with this rod.  I currently do not own any pounders but routinely throw 13" suzy suckers which weigh 14 oz with no problem.  I have also tossed the Mammoth Sue which weighs 23 oz but have not done so for any sustained period of time (throwing a 1.5# lure is madness for any rod).

There is still some give in the last 18" of the rod tip which allows for good handeling of the fish when hooked.   On the other end of the spectrum I can cast 1 oz ghosttails with this rod and it still works great.  Very versatile.

I have not tried the XH model Okuma 9'3" rod so can't comment on its abilities but have had no reason to try it based on very good results with the H model.

Only downside is the rod is tip heavy.  I shrink tubed some 1.25" washers to the back end of the handle to balance it out.

This week Fleet Farm (not all stores) is selling Okuma EVX Telescoping 8' 6" rods in H and XH for 99.99, with a rod sleeve. I already had one of each and picked up another H today that I will rig for lighter bucktails and cranks. I think they are a good value. I have used the XH for Mag Dawgs but not pounders.

Been trowing the Tackle Industries 9' XH for over a year now and love them for dawgs, and about anything else.

9'3" xh throws pounders fine. Wouldn't try it to much with the H

I've had both the 9'3" H & 8'6" XH and preffered the 8'6" for mag dawgs and the like, though the 9'3" was hard to beat for big blades.
