I have one rod/reel combo, it's a Red Isis 250 and serves me very well for throwing double 8's, would it be able to handle double 10's? If not, I do have an older ocean reel, it's an Ocean City Bay City with I believe a gear ratio of 3:1, and I believe is the same real as the Penn 309. It's heavy and has a larger profile, not to mention no levelwind, but would that be a better option for throwing 10's? Thanks for any help!

Your Ocean City reel is very much like a 309 and therfore will not cast very good. THe problems is that it is designed as a trolling reel so there are probably no bearings in it and the spool is very large and very heavy so casting will be difficult.

I found my dad's old shakespeare sigma baitcasting reel in my garage. It is the same size as other musky reels and the only difference is that you have to manually engage the reel with a lever, I Figured Id try it out for fun. It also has a 3:1 gear ratio and is suuuppper slow. The only application I see it useful for is trolling and live bait maybe, besides that just buy a new reel lol
