| if all there lakes our loaded with bullheads what's the big deal if muskies are in one lake there? and what's with the darkhouse association against the muskies being in the five lakes! it's not like there not gonna be allowed to spear northerns still in those lakes? |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | There are fears of the unknown and fear of change also involved in this issue. The important thing is the safeguard that by stopping the stocking later on it's just a matter of time before Muskie are very scarce in the Tentonka bio mass. I can understand a fear that the lake would be visited by many high powered go fasts, and that the sleepy mornings could be disrupted. But that is not a fear and has just not proved to be the case else where either. It's almost a shame the actual opposition & stories that come out of just a few people from that area. |

| The interesting thing about Tetonka is that there was an acidental release of Muskies about 8 years ago,from a rearing pond. I have personally caught 3 40+ inch fish from that lake |

| See the funny thing is the Waterville city council voted against the stocking also and the said it was partially becouse of the invasive speicies that could be brought in by people comeing from Iowa or Ill. to muskie fish. But they want the Iowa bullhead fishermen. Why do you ask? The lake shore assoc. and evedentally most of Waterville is anti-fishing, The funniest thing is 3 weeks after the city council voted no to muskies the voted yes to adding more boat slips on the lake to "boost tourism". And guess what, the lake assoc. people didn't object. Seems to me they want pontoons and not fishermen. Kind of hippocritical if you ask me.
I can't understand the darkhouse being against it either as it was Erv Halstead the MDAA pres down there that was the first person to go to the DNR in Waterville and suggest this be stocked with muskies.

Is it just me...
or do the organizations mentioned in this article from the city of Waterville seem to be living in the 1950's? How many people today, under the age of 60, still want to fish for bullheads? That city wants to maintain a fishing heritage, but they reject a new opportunity that would usher it in. They don't want invasive species, but they don't mind tourists at all the resorts and campgrounds. Hypocritical. They reject the DNR's studies of muskie introduction to substitute their own reality (muskies eating all the bullheads, lol). By the way, why does it matter what the Le Sueur county board thinks? They're that against tourism? I hope the general townspeople of Waterville are more prudent than the leadership of the organizations mentioned in this article that are painting their residents as hickish rubes

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | It's amazing how there can be such a hatred for a fish. One that doesn't muddy up the water, reproduce at an amazing rate, jump up and hit people off their boats, etc. I wonder if these people would be this up and arms about Asian carp? |

| I find it funny that the Waterville City Counsel member that pushed for the city to make a resolution to stop stocking Muskies, and also was concerned about more boats (Muskie anglers) meaning more invasive species; and how the only real concern to letting mooring rentals is there should be some restrictions on the color of the canopy's!!! Do any of these people ever listen at what they are saying? |

A lake in central IL I fish all the time used to have tons of bullhead in it, mainly small ones. The state started stocking muskie(mainly tigers) in it during the early 90's, and now they are pretty much wiped out. The biologist said the muskie love eating the bullheads. |

Location: Minnesota Metro | Funny you ask that because the tigers have all pretty much died off in that lake. Now the state only stocks the pures in there. While they were in their prime though they were good healthy fish. |

I can't see outside of draining this chain of lakes how the population would take a dent. There's allot of surface area there, not a small pond. In the fall when the bullheads group up in small feeding groups and are visible on the surface it's not uncommon in some parts of the lake to see 30 - 40 pods of fish working a stretch of shoreline. There's allot of B.H. in that water.

| Tetonka is also full of sheephead which the DNR says is a primary forage for Muskies. I wonder how upset the lake shore homeowners will be about losing some sheephead in the bargain. ?????? |

| The biggest difference with these new lakes is the target in Tetonka is to have about 40 adult fish in the entire 1100 acres in 10 years.
The biggest detriment to Bullheads is quality water, if you have clean water your going to hurt the wolly bully population. Waterville cannot be the Bullhead Capitol of the world( a moniker I hear they have left off the new city sign I'm told) and have the clean water they are working towards.
This will be a fun lake if it gets stocked.
