Posts: 3 | Does anyone have opinions on which Beckman net size is the best? I believe there are 3 sizes. Any of them too small? How easy are the Beckmans to lock into the yoke?

Posts: 1663 Location: Kodiak, AK | I had one. The one the same size as the Frabil Big Game, which is what I use now. It was plenty. The yoke was fine, other than you had to be sure to have it open and locked beforehand, as it was round and the pin could misalign from the hole and the handle would come out. You can't just "shake" it open like you can a Power Catch. All in all, a good net. Didn't like the bag so much, which was the main reason I switched.

Posts: 422 | +1 for having the Beckman locked into position beforehand. The handle has come out with fish on a few times for me with inexperienced net people..Probably my fault for not having it set up ahead of time. Other than that they are quality nets and I do like mine. My friend has the Frabill with the powerlock yoke and that is really nice...In the future I will be buying a Frabill, but at this point my Beckman suits me just fine...I think it is personal preference just like a lot of things.

Posts: 897 | Anyone else have problems with the bag developing holes that look like the netting just pulls apart? Not sure what does this but my first Beckman did this and now my new one (the old one sunk into the abyss) has a couple holes I had to patch with braided line...

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Yes, that is a problem with the bags since the company was sold a few years ago. My original beckman(standard musky size) was purchased used 20 years ago and is still working as a back-up. My first fin saver(10 years old) is still working too, though i replaced the bag three years ago because the coating had worn off over time. My new bag developed a hole when a big fish blasted nearly completely through, on the third outing with it. I sent an email and got a great response from Ted Takasaki at Lindy. I explained how the strands in the new bags are roughly half the diameter of the strands on the old bags. He sent a new bag no questions asked, which has developed holes in similar fashion. I like the bag design, but don't like how all of the holes develope right on the bottom where the strand spacing is wider. I've never had a reason to buy another net, but my next bag purchase could be from another company if Beckman doesn't increase the strand diameter(strength) to what it used to be. My friend Erik did likewise a few years back with his net consequently gaining the name 'Freckman'.

Posts: 897 | I sent Beckman an email about the bag issues. On my last net they developed all over the bag, not just in the bottom. Might end up with a "Freckman" before this is all said and done!
