Posts: 322 | I am probably the only person who doesn't understand why muskies can't reproduce in southern IL/IN. Someone once told me that it had something to do with Temp and Silt Contents in the water killing the eggs??? If temp was the issue wouldn't the muskie just drop their eggs when temp became optimal?? If silt contents were the issue why couldn't muskie reproduce in lakes such as Bass Lake. Which is a strip pit and all clays and silts have been removed and replaced with shales and sandstones. Maybe some very light light clay partical runoff. Bass lake is always windy due to the location and the fact there is no trees around "coal strip mine property". This lake probably has 20 mph + winds 80 percent of the time. The lake is trolling motor only also....lol...Better bring a truckload of batteries I almost always fire up the outboard because I get stranded out there. I've tried to look this up on yahoo.com with no success. I just get a bunch of different non related junk to come up. So if you know why they can't reproduce please let me know. Thanks Daniel Edited by muskymandan 1/28/2011 5:10 PM

Posts: 322 | It can be very dangerous because the stupid trolling motor only thing. I figured after a guy died out there trying to get his boat back 2 years ago they would at least let you idle your outboard. I talked to DNR and they had some sort of voting pole out there and talked about lifting the trolling motor only restriction but nothing ever came from it. So muskie can’t reproduce mainly because the temperature increases too fast?? Is there any resource that I can find to research and study muskie reproduction? Thanks Daniel

Posts: 45 | Google 'Indiana fish biologist'. There is a listing of the district biologists with their phone numbers etc. I'm sure they have plenty of info available.
