Switch to a big dawg. I've got both and the slingblade is too soft for 12's.

The retrieve mostly is rod and reel. The figure eight is mostly human arms and back. Do what I did after figure eights kicked my butt last year. I hit the gym.

I was concerned about the slingblade being too light for 13s on figure 8s too but haven't had any problems with it and my hookup percentage on the 8 has been great with big blades and this rod.

God himself could not have designed a better blank.

the sling blade is too soft in the tip for big saltwater reels imo and many others...it is a great rod for slow rolling/ medium speed reels and night fishing them ...but for burning you are simply fighting the tip and when you go into the 8 you are once again fighting the tip....there are way better choices for burning big blades...i have a 9' Sling blade and I only use it at night and when speed is not required.
real speed, not avg speed stuff.
