| I had the front treble on my reef hawg pull out. What's the best way to replace the hooks on these baits? Can you effectively replace the cotter pin to make it as secure as they are when they're new? Any tips would be appreciated, as this was my number one reef hawg.

| I would attach a split ring if the cotter pin is still in place (cut off the damaged hook and replace).
In the past, I have replaced the cotter pin on these type of lures. New ones can be purchased at an automotic supply store or hardware store. Sharpen the ends of the new cotter pin slightly. Pull the pin very tightly into the hook hanger hole, then bend the cotter pin ends into a squared off J and pound the cotter pin back into the bait. This will be as secure as the factory job. Hope this helps. |

| Yes you can repair them to be like new. Though it happens verey rarely, I've had big fish pull the front hook, or middle hook out when the fish is in the net. As Mike said Get the same size cotter pin that was in there, then cut the short side down so when you put it up through the bottom, it goes about 3/4 the way up to the top. Bend out the tip of the side you cut so it digs into the wood slightly(neat trick that promuskie showed me). Also bend the other side down a bit, so that when you pound it over on the top of the bait, it seats itself. I bend this part a little more than the side that is inside the bait. Really pound it so it is bent and seated good. Make sure you put the hook on before you do all this. The eagle claw hooks that come on the Reef hawgs from the factory are by far the best you can use. |

| I use the next size up cotter pin (I believe its 3/16" instead of 1/8"), it does require you to redrill the original hole but it makes it heavier duty and won't pull through. |
