No need to musky fish anywhere in Northern Il.
Water temps are steady in 80s. Bath water on Fox Chain.Peirce and local gems.
Just wait it out for a cool down, which doesn't look like anytime soon.

plenty of other species to catch while we wait.

I stopped fishing until it cools down, no need to chance dead fish.

It definitely isn't fun not fishing but the options for the educated angler are to go and fish North or to fish for species that are not nearly as stressed as Muskies in hot weather. I have not been fishing out there for 12 days or so. It sucks not being able to go out but hey. The worst thing you can do for these fish is to catch them deeper in the water column and bring them to the 80 + degree surface. Add insult to injury by taking pictures. Theoretically the shallow weed fish would not be as affected as the suspended fish but a suface layer of water devoid of oxygen is just that= bad all around.

Had to explain to a few friends about why we couldn't go on some previously scheduled trips. Got some funny looks at first , but they understood the running a marathon and then burying your head underwater anology.
I know of one local guide who has turned away two guide trips in the past week due to the hot water temps. Tough decision, but RESPECTING the resource is what should be #1 in everyones book. Time to go take advantage of hot bites that should be going on in MN and Canada right about now or work on the boat and the yard. Hopefully the first selection is in my future lol

I agree with Russ, Ben etc..
I cannot even get a temp under 82 in the last 2 weeks
The muskies on the Fox Chain,Crystal Lake,Loon and Peirce can wait.

Its been quite sometime since we can even fish out here! Unbearable temps over 85 have finally come down a bit.
Temps have been bouncing around since Monday. Cool mornings from 4am til 9 am.
Started with 78-79 Monday/Tuesday to Thursday @ 79-82.5. Wednesday was horrible, got off the water by 8 am. temps were 84-85, no good.
Marie,Catherine and Bluff showing lots of good fish.
