Location: Northern Wisconsin | I have put some SPRO power split rings, size 6 150 lb test, on my lures. Are they strong enough for musky fishing? I lost a fish on a bulldawg the other day when the split ring pulled apart or broke and it was either the original split ring on the dawg or one of these.

Yes, Spro rings are the only ones I use. IMO they are much tougher than Bucher's.

Posts: 97 Location: Pickering, ON | SPRO rings are awesome! They are just very expensive. They are my ring of choice for the nose/leader attachment point of most of my baits, as well as for the hooks on big baits (over 10"). For the hooks on the rest of my baits, wolverines and buchers get the nod. They are also tough, but a whole lot cheaper. Putting SPRO rings on the hooks of all baits would be a very, very expensive undertaking.

Just an opinion on something I've seen, and that's all it is, but I'm not sure I'm in love with the wolverine's. I see where they're going with the triple loop wrap, but more than once I've seen that third wrap flopped over one of the other two and a gap created, or the ring just doesn't look right. I just think that the extra thickness of the third loop/ring gives it a wider area against the ring attachment on the bait or the hook. Kinda like a single or double wire loop vs a slinky. I can only assume that this happens in the net when a fish has a bait pinned in its yap and thrashes around. Like I said, I only noticed this after catching the fish and inspecting the bait after the catching/netting is done. Not sure when it happens, prolly in the net. Anyway, the Double Ds have these three coil rings and after catching a fish I've replaced them with Bucher ones because the split ring was all mangled. Spro's are great. Buchers seem pretty tough and are way cheaper. For what its worth.... -Eric

Spro makes some great gear. I have been using their flourocarbon leaders for muskies for a couple seasons and their stuff is "top notch". I would believe that their rings are of the same high quality. You might wanna let Musky Innovations know about your Dawg pulling apart too----just a thought----Jobu
