I would like to know what are some of the deepest running crankbaits for trolling. I'd like to get the baits down 15-20 feet with the least amount of line out. Thanks Tom.

We have hit bottom with the Livid Fish (www.nazebaits.com) at 18-20ft--no problem. I don't have depth charts, bottom we didn't have an enormous amount of line out and we were moving about 4 mph. 15ft is no problem at all, in fact I have to slow down not to hit 15.

Check out the pool demos on our site.

I get my 12" Frankybait down pretty dang quick on the middle setting of three. Of course I am running it on wire, but I believe with 80' of line (or so) I was hitting in 35' of water, or close to it. I haven't found anything else that I have tried to get down that deep, that quick.

Both my 6" Super Cisco and 11" Mag Shads go to 20'. With that said they do need about 100' line out to do it. If I had my Musky Mikes Trolling book I could find one for you real easy but its lost at this time in one of many Plano boxes

On the final version of 10" switchbacks I am working on with 33' of line out it plows bottom at about 9 to 10 ft not sure on the final depth yet though but should be in that range someplace.

One other option are the mann's stretch series. I believe they have a 30+ and a 40+, they will get down there with minimal line out.

RyanJoz - Personally I think to get that deep on a cast a sinking crankbait would be the best choice. You would spend to much time with the bait going down then coming back up to the boat in unproductive water.

I agree with Roger. Getting a crank down that deep while casting is best suited with a countdown. Roger makes one of the best in that you can reel it really slow, and it still has action!

To have a casting bait get down that deep would mean a very hard pulling bait, and one that all you could do is reel (no jerking). I have been casting a Hookerbait a bit, and that don't get down nearly that far. 15', maybe. I can tell you those buggers pull, and if you don't run a screw through the head and lip the head will bust off if you do any kind of jerking.

Roger had also made me a deep diver a few years back that got down pretty dang good. A custom Cranky Nitro with an extra large lip. Again a hard puller for casting, and at the time I didn't have a good rod for tossing them. Now with a 9' Lamiglass I can, and have been, casting some pretty dang hard pulling cranks. Without the right equipment forget about casting them. You will just wear yourself out.

Slammer deep divers will get to 20 plus feet when trolled and I think the 10-15 range casting.

8 or 10" Hooker will work, and If I remember the 8" model gets down 22-24ft with just 85ft of line out.

Talonz Deepthreat will also get you down pretty quick. It is about equivelent to the Hookers (maybe alittle shallower running), but still not as fast as a Franky. Never did try the Franky on the deep setting. I would imagine Plows get down fast as well.

Tom, if your budget allows, take a look at the Hosebait Flat Shad too. It has a giant metal lip that gets it down in a hurry. Through wire construction, top notch lure with great action. Very few exist here in the States.

I can tell you the cost of the frankys...$100 for the 12" and $120 for the 14". Got a quote earlier this year so prices should be fairly current.
