I really think this reels line guide sits too low for this reel, I spooled up the line to max capacity with #80 braid and because the outer circumference of the spool sits higher than the line guide there is a bit of tension or drag on the upper portion of the line guide. I first noticed this when I was initially filling the spool, the handle became tougher to reel (yes I know the ratio increases as more line is retrieved).

If you do fill your revos to the brim have any of you noticed this?

All other abu garcias I have fished in the past have just a large guide shaped like () for the line guide, I never heard any drag on the line guide, but with the Revo I guess I am going to have to take off a casts worth of line

Mine seems to work well, but i don't fill it up all the way. In fact, i don't on any reel. I leave about 1/8" of gold showing. That is plenty of line and i have never run out of spool on a cast. Never even close. I even re-tie my leaders after the weekend and remove the last 6' of line.

Ya, I know I just see it as a minor flaw in the reel, it does crank extremely well but you can feel the tension when the spool is full, I think its a minor thing they could have considered fixing.

I have noticed this too. I filled mine up at least as full as yours and I can almost feel it dragging on either the guide or that metal bar that goes across at the end of a retrieve. I should probably pull off about 10 yds and it wouldn't be an issue.

Mine clears the rear metal bar, it would be nice if they had a taller/thinner levelwing guide, the extra diameter of the spool is worthless without it.

Most reels you leave 1/8" from the top of spool, most say that in the OWNER MANUAL. So you are over filling the spool and the line hits the top of the line guide. I don't think you will loose over 1/4" - 1/2" per turn of the handle on line pickup, and a overfilled spool will backlash so so easy.

Saltist levelwind reels are the same way, take some line off the reel and you'll be fine. You'll probably be happier with the casting performance also, with less line on the spool.

I am thinking that was the demise of both of my Revo 60's this week. So, as a word of caution, don't overfill the spools. I always overfill my reels, and did notice this flaw when I spooled them a month ago, and took some line off. apparently it was not enough, as the levelwinds failed, thinking as a result. I loved how they worked up until yesterday, and when I get them back, will not be putting as much line on.
