Location: Kodiak, AK | I'm a Shimano guy and am happy with my 400 and 700 TE's. But in the past I've thought about the Saltist for blades if I found one cheap. Now I see Saltists for sale all the time here. I know not everyone is offloading their Saltists, but why so many for sale? Are guys trading them for Winches or they just aren't happy with the Saltists?
Really just more curious than anything. |

| I think a lot of the big reel craze is dieing down. Nothing wrong with the Saltist or other big reels but I think guys are realizing that these huge reels are not as much fun to fish with. |

Location: Des Moines IA | I'm selling my saltist because I've found it is actually TOO fast of a retrieve ....... I keep popping blades right out of the water with it ..... It's built like a tank, has plenty of power and speed, but all I need for big blades is an old school 7000 ....... I currently have 2 7000's, and have pretty much decided to gradually switch over completely to 7000's ....... Unless the Okuma Akenas turns out to be all it is cracked up to be ... If so, it might just be my future reel of choice ......

Location: Sw Pennsylvania | I sold mine because it was too big to palm and when throwing blades i gotta palm the reel. Pulled blades great but was too big for my hands. I too am a big fan of anything shimano makes so i bought a torium 14 and have been pleased with its performance and is easily palmable like my cardiffs and calcuttas 400s.

Location: Right behind you (tap, tap) BOOO | The majority of the reels for sale are usually the 40HA levelwind, because a ton of people bought them because they were levelwind and picked up a ton of line per crank. Those same fisherman likely found them to be VERY LARGE and uncomfortable to fish with, and decided to sell them off and move down to the 30's and 20's. I have a 30HA and for me it's perfect, a solid comfortable reel that does it's job well, I will be adding a 20HA in the future. I also have a 30th (non LW) and that sucker hauls some serious blades in BUT it's a single purpose reel and kind of a pain without the levelwind.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | I bought a 40 this winter, and use it for big blades and Pounders. My first thought on it was it was MASSIVE. After using that for an hour, then going to my Calcutta 400, it feels like I just went to a bass rod. I have mine paired up with an Okuma EVX 9'3 XH. The whole setup is pretty stout and heavy (mostly just the reel). But if I want to burn in blades or pick up the slack line on a Pounder with one crank, it gets the job done. The manual engage didn't take long to get used to either. But I think if I did it all over again, I would get a Calcutta TE. Just didn't have the money at the time. |

Location: Lebanon,Mo | Actually, I thought there was a ton of Revo Toro's for sale than anything,but anyway the Saltist is a great reel and you get the same power out of the 20 size as you do the bigger ones.You can palm it and feel your arms at the end of the day.I used the 30 before and looked at the 40 and said no way.The 20 is perfect for me... |
