I would like to buy a nice package of all around hooks to have in the boat as backups, what's a good brand and all around size that can be put on most larger bucktails, topwaters, jerkbaits, etc...

I carry Eagle Claw 774s in 5,4,3 and 1. Best hooks I have used IMO.

4/0s and 5/0s are the most standard/common sizes on baits. I like the Eagle Claw 774s as well. In referring to "most larger bucktails", if you're referring to baits like Double Cowgirls, they use Mustad 3551 7/0s, which should work well on any of the double 10s out there.

The 4/0 and 5/0 seems to be the most common. I like the 4/0 as a backup replacement hook.

As to brand, etc., I lend toward the VMC hooks, as long as they are strong.....like the VMC 9626BZ (4X). I like hooks that are already sharp and strong....I'm sold on VMC hooks that are sharp and strong.

I have a mix of VMC 4/0 and 5/0 as well as 774's and 3551's, different hooks for different baits.

Musky Innovations - Plasma Point.

They're not exactly inexpensive, but they're the same ones that come standard on the new model Bulldawgs and they are wicked sharp right out of the box. If I ever have a hook that needs replacing, this is what I replace them with...

I've switched over to the Tyrant hooks, keeping 3's 4's & 5's in my boat. I prefer their shorter shanks & over all strength and sharpness.
