First we had the invasion of carp, lamprey eels, and foreign weeds to contend with. Then along came advisories about mercury and PCB contamination in our fish. Then along came the rusty crayfish, exotic fish into the Great Lakes(gobie, ruffe, white pearch, etc.) along with the infamous water filtering zebra mussel. Now we're getting snakehead fish who eat everything in sight and then crawl to another lake- bigmouth carp, capable of reaching 60 to 80 #'s and jumping 6-8 feet in the air(a real suprise while you're cruising along @ 50 m.p.h.)
On land we're now contending with CWC in our deer and elk herds and the deadly menace of West Nile Virus carried by our ever friendly mosquitoes.[:knockout:]

And then we will die. Welcome to this ever changing world in which we live in. God knows what he is doing.

Don't blame "Mom Nature", she's not the one who put the Gobies in lake Erie or the snakehead in Maryland. I think things would be fine if we wouldn't keep screwing them up!!!

Maybe one day we will learn?

Hillbilly is wise beyond his, uh, name. God and Ma Nature are but innocent bystanders. Before Anglo-Saxon men came around with their crappy 'civilization' & 'advancement' this planet was the most perfectly functioning, well-oiled machine ever known in the Universe! At least, as far as we can comprehend it was. Its still pretty awesome, lets just hope it is for generations to come. Enough philosophical waxing...

Dirk- It's an invasive species, i.e., not native to the USA- Here's the link for Wisconsin where I live. -> http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/water/wm/glwsp/exotics/milfoil.html

Go here and you can find more information than you probably care to know about on Eurasian Milfoil. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=eurasian+mil...

Because it's a native European aquatic plant you're probably already familiar with it.

Sponge,
I think your right. Perhaps this is more evidence that the "birth pangs" have started.

The problem is not so much with Mother Nature as with humans and their mobiltity. With the mobility people have today, a person may go fishing in the Amazon river this week and the Mississippi River or Lake Erie the next. If they inadvertently transfer a life form from one area to another, it may be with extreme negative impact.[:((]

Sponge,
My name's in the "book". If you're ever in WI, look me up. I'll put you on one of those open water, suspended hawgs that will overtake your lure "as fast as the lightning flashes from east to west." Beam me up scotty! [:halo:]

I started this thread with tongue firmly implanted in cheek, in order to get everyone to remember that as users of our waters, we are also abusers. Please do all you can to have as little impact as possible. Get those weeds pulled from your boat and trailer, empty the livewell and baitwell water, before heading to the next lake. Even a small amount of water with a foreign organism dumped into the wrong water can have far reaching effects.
