Leech is on my "things to do" list as I've never been there. Federal Dam is the closest to the cabin. Looks like it's down river a bit from the main lake ? Just wondering if it's a decent landing and if there are any navigation problems getting to the main lake ? Any other landings in the vicinity that are better ? thanks.

Where is your cabin?
The landing is fine - I haven't been on that stretch in anything but a duck boat between the lake and the landing so I am not sure about navigatin hazards. I think it is fine but.......

landing is good. and there is a deep channel thats plenty deep for any boat. red and green bouys lead you right to the main lake. none navigations issues what so ever. and if you plan on staying out after dark the bouys to the mouth of the channel will be blinking, so you will be able to see if from the other side of the lake. depending on the time of year your fishing; make sure to put in your time on five mile point in the cabbage and on two points. if your out in the fall work a white and orange spinnerbait threw the bull rushes on both of those points. happy fishing

I also believe the Federal Dam landing requires a fee as well. Not sure what the cost is since it has been a few years since I have gone out through there.

Not far south of there is the public access east of Battle and Sugar points. Good cabbage there in the sheep pastures which can be good at times, and puts you a little closer to Sub, Annex, and the rocks around Pelican without running the boat as far. Makes your run to Two Point area a little farther though. Was in decent shape last time we were there 3 years ago.

Launch at New Leech Lake Campground. Motor out about 100 yds and start fishing.

Go just as far to the Walker launch, as the Dam and be close to Good Muskie water,... or shorter drive to the south east part of leach that looks out to bear island.... It's only 50-60 min. from Cohassett..... Oh,.. don't forget Cass, that's also pretty close by. I wished that I lived as close as you do to some prime Muskie Lakes.

The sugar point public access is nice and its free. Use it all the time. Sometimes you just have to dodge the indian kids that are swimming there and won't move for nothing.

I was going to mention but brett already did that if you have to pay a fee at the federal dam launch, you mind as well turn on the new leech lake campground road, pay there fee, and put in there. I think the road is about half way between federal dam and bena. You don't to drive as far with the pickup and its pretty close to five mile and even closer to the cabbage running up to two points.

One thing to keep in mind is pay attention to the wind. The wind can get pretty wicked, pretty fast. So that could be a factor in where to launch also.

I found the New Leech Lake Campground on the NW part of Portage bay. http://www.leechlakecampground.com/

The Leech Lake Chamber has a decent map to identify the area's mentioned in this thread. http://www.leech-lake.com/fishing/lake-map.htm

Again, thanks !

Go in at the public access off 200 at either Whipoldt or go up 39 (off 200) and use the public access at the end of partridge point road. Your vehicle will be safer. You'll be closer to good spots you'll find on any Leech map.

Coming from Cohasset - your closest accesses have already been mentioned.
The USFS access in Federal Dam, New Leech Lake Campground in Portage Bay, and the Sugar Point public access. Depending on the wind - you should be aware that there is a new public access in the northeast corner of Sucker Bay - down the Sucker Bay Road. Probably another 15-20 minutes travel time for you further than the Federal Dam access from Cohasset. I would pick an area to fish and launch close to there.

I don't know anything about the dam landing. I've never even SEEN the dam landing, so I am guessing that what the other people say about the dam landing is true. My suggestion would be to check out the dam landing yourself and see if the dam landing is any good.

That was fun!
