| I finally drank the cool aid and got a 8'6" Okuma XH for throwing big rubber and such. Now the idea of useing it for trolling crossed my mind. I have several deadicated trolling rods, but unless I plan on trolling, I normally only have one trolling rod with me at any givin time. (lack of rod storage space)
This is my first telescopeing rod. It seams strong, but I would think the joint area could be a weak spot in trolling situations.
Has anyone put these rods through the rigors of trolling?
Have they held up?

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The joint area is not weak. Telescoping rods are very popular for trolling for all species of fish. No issues. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | What happens with Tele rods is over time you will get dirt and or sand in the joint and you will wear the rod blank where the joint meets, it don't take alot of wear to weaken that joint. |

I normally don't have dirt and or sand on my rods. Not sure how you transport your rods that you get this stuff in the union when you are going fishing? You got that much dirt/sand in your boat or vehicle that it gets in there? Not an issue with me.
As for the original poster, they make great trolling rods. Very durable rods and will take the trolling of the hard pulling baits. Go for it!!! |

I will tell you where the dirt and sand comes from, when you reel in your line the water that runs off your line will have dirt and sand and weeds and it will run into that joint.
I can't wait to try out the Tele rods from TackleBooty, I just got back from FL tarpon fishing with Tackle Booty 8' rod, I love that rod because it breaks down under 7' to fit in my rod tube for the Airline. I will taking that same rod to N.W.T. in Canada for Pike and Lake Trout fishing this year to. |

I can't wait to try out the Tele rods from TackleBooty, I just got back from FL tarpon fishing with Tackle Booty 8' rod, .
Should have hang around FLA a little longer. You would be able to get a bit of oil along with that dirt sand and weeds to lube up that joint as well.  |

YOU KNOW,troller like to put the rod tip in thE wATER ,and guess what.into the water there is a lots of stuff that you dont want to see inside the joint of a rod

I have yet to have anything creep up the rod tip and get into the joint when trolling with my Okuma rod tips in the water. Because its a snug fit and nothing will get between the two pieces when the rod is fully extended So don't worry about that. All this talk about getting dirt, sand, weeds, and whatever in the joint is so remote,. that you are likely to get hit by lighting than get something in that joint.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I've been fishing with the Okuma telescopics for 3 years now and have not had a problem with anything getting stuck in the 'joint'. I am sure there is dirt, weeds, and whatever that comes off the water on every cast, and lord knows I rarely if ever clean up my boat, nor do I even take very good care of my gear. I have not had a problem with the joint, but if you want to forecast problems for a product you've never owned based soley on postulation of what could happen, I suppose that is one way to steer people to and from product. |

| Cool Deal. I wont think twice about useing it for trolling...
Buy you know.... I COULD tie a piece of spong above the joint area..... I bet that would keep that dreaded dirty water out of my crack.....

All products will --eventually-- wear out, but the recommendation (or inference) not to use an Okuma telescoping for trolling because it's telescoping and something might get into the joint is a bit over the edge. And I'm getting increasingly weary of folks answering questions about a product by telling folks to buy another...that wasn't the question, and it isn't the answer, and that goes for all the product discussed by companies that are promotional partners here...and those who aren't.
You will enjoy trolling with the rod, and it will serve you well. |
