Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | I bought a used Power Drive 80 and am about to install it. Does anyone know if a quick release mounting plate is standard with these motors? The base (mounting bracket) looks to be made of aluminum. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to remove the base from the rest of the unit before installing it or if I should just put the motor in the deployed position and hang it over the deck, position it, and then mount it in place. I'm hoping the mounting bracket separates from the unit so as to make it easier to take the motor on and off the boat untill until I can get the custom cover altered to fit the much larger motor. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Posts: 462 Location: Madison Wi. Chain | I would check into a quick release bracket. I have this same trolling motor, I believe I have an MKA 21 quick release bracket mount. Very easy to install and allows you to take off the trolling motor when not in use. Good luck with your install. BG

Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | Thanks BG. My main problem is that I'm not sure if I already have the quick release. When I bought it (the motor) from the guy, he said to mount the plate first and then attach the motor. I can't see how I would get the plate loose from the motor. It appears to be part of the motor base. If it were a quick release, how would it attach and unattach? Would it be obvious that it is a separate part from the motor base? Thanks.

Posts: 25 | The quick disconnect is not standard equipment on Powerdrives, that't not to say that he did not put an after market one on. Take a look on Cabelas website and look at the quick disconnects, there are only a few that fit Powerdrives and you will be able to tell if your TM has one. The one I have slides off and there is a screw that goes into the side of the bracket to hold it in place. From what your describing I'm guessing it doesn't have one as it is fairly obvious if there is one installed.

Posts: 86 | The attached picture is a picture of the minnkota powerdrive bracket that I used to have. You can see how the 2 pieces slide into each other and if you look closely you can see the screw/knob to unscrew one from the other. (The knob is located on the top left side of the bottom bracket.) Posts: 40 Location: Elkhorn, WI | Thanks for the help guys. After seeing what one looks like I could tell I didn't have one. Went to Anchors Aweigh last night and got one for $42. Problem solved. I love this site.
