Thanks,
David

I have a couple of them - I have chronic lip burn even with sunscreen - I use them now and again when the sun is really powerful. They work really well but are a bit of an irritant if yo have any facial hair.

They're nice for snowboarding. Haven't worn one in the summer yet.

Picked one up last winter. Have worn it several times this spring while it was still cool out and it worked OK. I think you may sweat in it if it was 80 degrees and no wind. It's good for running down the lake to keep the bugs out of your teeth. If you get one get a light colored one. It beats the heck out of skin cancer.....

I love my Buff. I thought they looked kinda goofy too but keeps the sun off my neck and also great for keeping bugs outta the ears . In hot temps I dip it in the water and it keeps it nice and cool !

I have a buddy who's father is a highly respected surgeon. He told us that anything under Heavy prescription strength spf's, only works for about a half hour. Your better covering up rather than smearing lotion all over every 30 minutes.

The only people who are worried about looking dumb protecting their health are already probably pretty goofy lookin'

Speaking of sunblock, I have been using the most amazing stuff lately... it's made by Neutrogena and it's called Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch in SPF 100+. I hate those oily blocks too, but this stuff goes on with a dry feel and is completely dry in a matter of minutes!

I have been on the water 10-12 hours a day and I have not had ANY redness to my exposed skin. Pretty awesome stuff I think.

Hope this helps someone.

I would like to know where to buy as well. Have already had some spots removed with liquid nitrogen and worry about it after talking with my doctor. At 16 I starting working outside trimming Xmas trees and then in college worked road contruction, before there were sun screen products. At least I was smart enough to keep my t shirt on, so most of the damage is on face, neck and ears.

The Neutragena Sun Block is available at places like Walgreens or do I dare say it... Wal-Mart (hate Wal-Mart).

It runs about $12-$14 per bottle. Worth every penny! You don't need a ton of it either. My face is not even hot when I get off the water, you know that feeling. Not good.

I put it on while looking in the mirror so I don't miss any spots. Try it and you won't use anything else I bet.

Good Luck!

North, if you are already having spots removed you need something prescribed not over the counter. The Buff would do you better. A couple years ago, I fished with a Bonefish guide in the Keys that had some spots removed, and he had to put on this silver sunscreen that really thick and nasty - I gave him a buff, and he still wears it instead of he goop. You can get the Buff a lot of places. Capt. Harrys, Cabelas, World Wide Sportsman (Bass Pro), or directly from Buffwear.com

Just an FYI on the Neutrogena sunscreen. It contains a synthetic estrogen that actually increases the risk of skin cancer according to new studies! Yikes!

The highest rated sunscreens are from Badger and a few others. There is a link to the rating website embedded in the news article. If your are going to be outside casting on the water, you best be informed on what is the best sun protection.

Holy crap is this disturbing! Thanks for posting. I was only going by the noticeable difference in FEELING less effects of the sun after a long day on the water.

With your research, what was found to be the most effective and safest sunblock?

Thanks for your awareness.

Lee, I have done some further digging. Not only does that oxy chemical--the synthetic estrogen--actually increase the risk of skin cancer, but it also has been linked to birth defects!!!!

I am switching to Badger. You have to rub it in longer or you look like a ghost, but it is the number one rated sunblock. I have had a small patch of skin cancer removed and it is no joke.

Badger is available at REI and also online at Amazon. (I have no affiliation or financial connnection to any of these products or companies).

Thanks for your homework Steve! If you could post a link to the Badger Sunblock on Amazon that would be great.

Thanks,

I have a Columbia Sportswear fishing hat. It doesnt help for the face, but it works great for protecting your ears and back of the neck.
