So i built a custom deck extension and are going to cut downspouts to hang my lures from. Couple questions, would you recommend vinyl or steel? Size of the downspout? (Was thinking at least 2x3) Also what would be the easiest and fastest way to fasten the pieces together? (Self tapping screws?)

The 2 x3 vinyl downspout works well. We glued ours in the desired shape using liquid nails in a caulk tube. A table saw or radial arm saw works great for cutting the vinyl downspout.

Would there be any disadvantage to using 3x4 aluminum downspout?

The PVC was easy to cut, and easy to Dremel out lure hanger slots. Not sure what Glue/Epoxy would work best for aluminum? Other that that, and the obvious noise factor, probably not.
