Everyone should read this and be very concerned about the opening of Cass Lake to spearing. The Area Fisheries Supervisor estimates that the removal of the spearing ban will result in an increase of northern pike harvest by 52%. Additionally, he estimates that the number of fish over 30 inches in Cass Lake will be reduced by 40% as a result of spearing.

These are extremely troubling numbers.

Please contact your representatives and provide them with this study so that they understand the impact on Cass Lake.

This case is a classic as to why fisheries folks should set the limits and protections on any body of water intentionally managed for trophy fish, and the legislature should not be involved in any manner. Let the mangers manage.

Unfortunately, this passed on the floor in the Senate yesterday. I believe it is still being discussed in the House.

Makes you wonder how good the Pike fishing would be if they were all Cass lake....Thats why they want all they lakes they cant get at... they are living proof..destroy all the evidence.
