The one that means 'system ready' or something like that. Does that stay on all the time? I unplugged the on-board charger and the light on the motor is still on.

Check the deploy lever, sometimes it sticks a little bit. If the green light is on it thinks the motor is deployed and in the water. Make sure it is locked and in the cradle all the way, the light should go out.

So the way it is right now the motor is in the cradle and you can turn it on? If thats the case something is out of adjustment in the stow/deploy mechanism. If you remove the sideplates theres a few different things that can be slightly tweaked to get the light to go out. But on a brand new motor I would contact Minn Kota and see if they have any advice.

I think I"ll call them tomorrow. I hope I don't have to return it. I already put the quick release plate on it and had the lead lengthened to reach my battery. I bought the motor new 2 months ago.

Edited to add, yes the motor will turn on while stowed.

Isn't that the whole point of the on-board charger, leaving it all plugged in?

I'm guessing you may not be fully stowed, even though it looks like it. The light on and it still running are indicative that you're not fully, properly stowed. It could be misaligned and just be a switch position issue, but you can't ease these things into their cradles; you gotta really bring them home! I've got two friends with their respective Terrovas at the bottom of their respective lakes because they weren't properly stowed (though appeared to be) and they deployed themselves over the bow on plane. Gotta make sure the green light is out before you go anywhere!

Do you have your trolling motor wired directly to your battery? You mentioned that you had the lead lengthened is why I ask. The plug that is being refered to is the male plug off your trolling motor. That plug fits into a recepticle that runs from your batteries. I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with the issues your having, just an observation.

Yes I had it wired directly to the battery. In my boat I'm not sure how else I would have to hook it up. ???

esoxfly; I did ram it in there pretty good. I even pushed back to deploy it and it wouldn't go until I clicked the lever downward.

I dropped it off today at the local shop that does MK warranty work so I'll find out soon if it was me being a moron (entirely possible!) or if a sensor was out of whack or something.

Got it back today. Apparently the release lever was bent. I guess that's what I get for buying a store display model. One thing to check if you're having a similar issue.

just a note, this can also be caused by mounting the motor in a "bind".pretty easy to torque the mount on most boats.if needed you can use washers to shim it so there isn't any twist in the frame.that said, the terrova with i-pilot is the best thing since cold beer!
