Bought a new boat and now need to register it. Before I can put the new registration letters/ numbers/sticker on the boat I need to remove the old ones.

Anyone have any idea how to get the old ones off without ruining the finish of the boat. It is figerglass with a beautiful polyflake finish. I don't want to ruin the finish but the old letters/ numbers/sticker need to go.

Thanks in advance.

Are the numbers and letters decals or are they painted? Ususally a hair dryer (NOT a heat gun!) will soften them up enough to get them off with a razor or plastic scraper. Then a solvent like Goo-Gone to remove any remaining adhesive. That's how I've done it on tin and glass boats in the past.

Just peeled off my old reg stickers and a different sticker I wanted off. Hair dryer to warm up and it peeled right off. The remaining glue I soaked with Goo Gone, let it sit for a few minutes and the glue wiped right off with a towel.

My new used boat has the registration painted on the side. It is an aluminum boat and where the registration is painted on it is painted aluminum. Anyone have any suggestions? I was going to have a black decal made that will cover the entire old registration but, i am open to better ideas. Thanks, Tom

Ditto....has worked on more than a few boats.
