| have people really having problelms with the split rings on bulldawgs now or in the past, if so wich baits. I have never had problems but I havent slammed enormous fish either. should I change them out? |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | The only thing I've ever switched on Bulldawgs is the hooks. I upsized. No problem with the split rings, even on the last generation. Biggest fish on one so far is a tank of a river fish. 47"er. Didn't oblong the ring in the least bit. |

Location: Mayer, MN |  Only if you want to lose really big fish. Last summer I believe I may have lost my largest fish running the stock split rings on an older Magnum Shallow Uptown Dawg. Fish went vertical, completely cleared the water and this is how it came flying out of its mouth in slow motion. My father and I were sick, fearing the health of the muskie swimming with a hook in its face, due to inferior split rings.
This is exactly how it was reeled back to the boat. The image is burned into my brain.

Location: Hayward, WI | Lots of Luck, too bad that that happened. Sounds like a heartbreaker. I haven't bought any of the old Daws, but it sounds like the rings and hooks on them needed to be changed. The new Dawgs that I have with the new rubber seem pretty solid. I haven't caught anything real big on them yet, but haven't had any problems with the newest Bulldawgs.

Location: Land of the Musky | Make sure you change them out to a good tempered stainless steel ring like a Worth #7. My philosophy on making lures and for my personal lures is to have my line as my weak point. 80# and/or 100# line is what I use so everything else needs to be stronger than that. Granted it usually takes less than 100# of pressure to bend a hook out. Even with a good snag you can usually pull a hook straight to save your lure. Just use a slow steady pull and if you are lucky you will get your lure back.

Yes - I have one and it's an awesome bait! Very versatile, durable, and they catch fish. Make sure you get a weight kit if you get one.
