We don't 'allow' spearing either.

Federal Government Treaties ceding a specific territory to United States guarantee the Native Americans here the RIGHT to use any method they desire to harvest a specific number of muskies per year.

The state ALLOWS the rest of us to fish. It's not a 'right' for the rest of us, it's a revocable privilege.

Since we can't spear, we can't decoy. I do use an underwater camera to decoy muskies in for my OFM on the Ice video, though...does that count?

Not in my opinion, but if that small camera provokes reaction I think you know as a long time icefisherman why its not legal here to decoy.

Relax. Most years it's impossible to ice fish Muskies at all because there's no ice during the open season, and no one uses decoys here through the ice for any purpose I am aware of.

Wasnt upset just curious about decoying in your state seen used in spearing video. Not familiar with your seasons or anything up there really. on reciprocal waters here no closed season, spawning period we close seasons. I dont think that WCO meant any harm in fact he was telling the readers to turn the fish to ash 2 hrs at 350 degrees. To your other readers this was and is a heavily industrialized state. the fishing here is still pretty good especially for toothy critters. Our fish commision has much to be proud of.

My issue with that article is not the cooking of the musky. I've eaten them, they aren't horrid. Smaller tiger muskies are great fried up. Just like pike. My issue with the article is the recipe. What a lame-o recipe. Bake and baste with butter? Wow on the cutting edge of the culinary world are we? It took hours of research to dream up that recipe? Give me a break.

Is it illegal to kill a muskie?

Most muskie fishermen I know release 99.99% of the skis they catch....If a few are kept/accidentally killed then put to good use to consume, I wouldn't dare condemn them for that. This elitist/extremist attitude that is spreading throughout the muskie fishing world is getting pretty rediculous if you ask me. I remember the days when most every legal fish was bonked over the head. Not that those were the good days, but these days muskie fishermen make EVERY effort to protect and preserve the sport and preservation DOESN'T necessarily mean 100% C&R. There are many other important variables to preservation. One is educating our youth about the respect and appreciation of what we have....IMO teaching this extremist attitude can be as damaging as being a glutton.....it breeds greed, dissension and seperation within a group which should be strongly unified to keep muskie fishing alive positive and strong by focusing on the most important issues; one being RESPECT. I have always believed in moderation....extremity one way or the other creates ignorance and termoil.

Hammer away boys!!
