Does anybody have the Rock Tamer brand of mud flaps? I looked at them on the Cabela's website and they got great reviews.

They are adjustable both horizontal and vertical but I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and I am worried they might be too long even on the highest mounting position??? I did not see in the description what the vertical adjustable lengths were?

Thanks,

Chas Martin

Hiya,

I know of one company that when you purchase your rock tamer it will come ready to install because they ask for a measurement before they send it. it is called towtector.

I hope I am not going against any rules here, but here is a link to their website:

http://www.towtector.com/

what makes this one a decent product (by reviews) is that the rock tamer goes all the way across the rear of the truck, which evidently helps keep rocks from shooting up from the inside edge of one tire to the opposite side of the boat. It is not a flap but two sets of those brush-type that you commonly see on Fed-Ex or UPS semi-truck trailers.

I run the Rock Tamers and really like them. I have two sets, one for everyday running and one for long trips when the truck/boat are really loaded down. They have improved the frame to a powder coated design and the rigity of the bars is excellent. I'd recomend them to anyone looking for a stiff rubber protector that stops the big rocks as well as small debris. One word of caution, be sure to have your rig on a completely level surface loaded the way you will normaly run, before cutting the flaps. Then, cut them one section longer than you think you will need. The reason I have two sets, is I cut the first set too short, and while I had my boat backed into the garage, on a non level surface.

Here is another option that is very good, been using this one for the past four years. Very easy to remove by simply pulling the hitch receiver out when not in use.

I need to get a system like this, but I just don't see $330+ worth of material or engineering in these things.

Thanks guys,

Here's another question - for those that have the protector with the brush material, have you had any problems with your exhaust burning a hole through the material?

Thanks,

11. What will my exhaust do to my Towtector?

- Under the bumper rear exhaust will melt your brush strips. Cut 2” circle around exhaust.

I've been using my Kwikpfyt for the last five years and haven't had any issues with the exhaust on mine. However, my exhaust bends to the right as your looking at the truck from the back, so it's no big deal for a Chevy.

I would also have to vote for Towtector. Yes, it wasn't cheap, but I believe it offers the best protection over most others. I bought mine last spring and used it all year long for pulling the boat. I got it custom made to fit my truck and it works awesome. Having the ideal length is very important when looking at products like these. If it's at all to short your going to still have rocks getting through. One bad thing about the plastic/rubber type protectors, they will deflect rocks back to your tires or your undercarriage. The dual big trucker looking style flaps/protectors are worthless. I watched a truck last year going down the interstate and they were just flapping around all over the place. Just my two cents..

Go with the rock tamers, I have a set and they work very well. You can adjust the height of the flaps according to the load in your truck, only takes a couple of seconds. They are very solid and secure construction.

i'd probably have a hard time measuring mine so probably wouldn't be smart enough to get them ... i'd have to ask permission to make sure it was ok first. lighten up ... it's the internet.

I also saw that but I was thinking the same thing as Lambeau - cutting a 2" circle in hanging brush strips won't work, the ends of the brushes below the circle will not be connected to anything???

I wanted to know if someone had an exhaust pipe facing the brush strips but had not had to buy the expensive heat shield?

Thanks,

Chas Martin
