Just sold my 2003 1650 fish hawk with a 70 hp 4 stroke.
I am looking at 2 possibilities right now and I need some opinions/firsthand experience.
• does anyone own or been in a fish hawk 1650 or 1600 with the 50 hp merc 2 stroke. How do they run, plane, start in cold, troll...??? What do you think of these engines?
• is a 60 hp merc 2 stroke big enough for a fish hawk 1750 tiller - speed, planing...?

Thanks so much for your help - I really appreciate it!!!

I don't think a 60 hp motor is big enough for a 1750 tiller.

I had a 75 hp ELPTO 2-stroke on a boat I had a couple of years ago and I couldn't troll with it. It would "load up" and start to run rough after 15 minutes on low rpm's. On the other hand my 115 optimax you could run at trolling speeds all day and it would never miss a beat.

My uncle has a 2001 1600 fishhawk with a 70 hp Johnson on it and it seems plenty for that boat. It planes out nice and runs about 35-37 mph on the gps. I think a 50hp would be alittle under powered for that boat. In the long run you would be running the motor harder to get more top end out of it, which would lead to you burning more fuel than if you had a bigger motor.

Just my .02.

I have a 2001 1650 Fishhawk SC. It can handle a 90, but I have a 80 Yamaha as they didn't make a 90 four stroke at the time.

It planes fine and goes about 36 on GPS.

I had a 1600 fishhawk with a yamaha 2 stoke 50 on the back and I would call it underpowered, it got up on plane fairly fast with just me in the boat and would run about 30 but with 2 in the boat it was a tad slow to get on plane and ran about 27, and with 3 it would barely get up on plane. With 2 in the boat it also didn't like to cruise at 3/4 throttle, it was pretty much idle or go WOT so as welldriller mentioned i burned a lot of gas because it was underpowered.

Not the answers I was hoping to hear - of course - but good honest answers. Thanks!
I have a good deal lined up on a 50 hp 1600 FHawk - but I may pass and wait it out. Missed a beauty 1650 with a 75 opti on it at a great price - rats!!!!
Anyone know of any almost new 1650's out there. I am in Canada, but will gladly drive far to get what I want:)
