| ive got a garcia big game with 5.3 to 1 & shimano currado 7to 1. i have others just put up to to give an idea. |

Location: In a shack in the woods | That's Too broad of a question. I personally would not use a 6.2:1 ratio on anything that's not a saltwater reel. They are a lot less work but weigh a little more. A 5.4:1 reel will bring the blade in with a little less tension but you will have to reel more which sounds like no big deal until you try to do it for 10 hours. It's more about can the reel handle the job and if you want to lug more weight or reel more. The spool size factors in as well. The bigger the spool the more line that comes in on a turn. Try doing a search. This subject has been beat to death. |

There are 2 ways to go with reels for big blades...imo you have reels that are set up to burn big blades during the day mainly, reels like Trinidads, Saltists, Avets..big saltwater reels in the 6.3 to 1 ratios with lots of line pick up per crank...those are for really BURNING them in....very specialized reels for basically one application tho some use them for other baits too, I do not...
Then you have the reels that can bring in big blades at avg and slower, slow rolling speeds for slower presentations and night fishing...
Reels like Penn 975, Revo Toro Winch, Abu 7000s etc...4.1 to 4.5 to 1 ratios...those reels can be used for lots of other baits too
A reel in the 5.1 to 5.4 to 1 can do just fine for bringing in big blades at slow speeds but it does take a touch more effort and a power handle to make it an all day thing ...
I have a rod/reel set up with Trinidad 16n and a bit stiffer tip to bring in the big blades and a Penn 975 on a 9' Sling Blade for night fishing...imo going w 2 set ups like that if you can is the best of both worlds...

| I agree with Brad 100% here! I've been thinking about this a lot lately and what I have come up with is that as nice as a trinidad or saltist is with major line pick up it does make it that much harder to reel the big blades in opposed to a 7000ic3 with 4:1. The difference is how fast you have to reel. I'm a young guy in great shape so it doesnt bother me to use a 4:1 all day with supermodels because I do not tire as much. With a penn or abu you will have a lot more torque meaning you will be less fatigued...what are you losing?..speed...but you can still get the speed you just need to reel a little bit faster! Or i like Brads setup..Have one high ratio and one low ratio.
