Posts: 2361 | ,,,I started looking at my own stuff. 6 tallywhackers, 6 hawg wobblers, several 9 inch suicks in most colors, a few of a certain crankbait, and none of these can be trolled, they are all cast, so why own more than one, and then this winter I busted my favorite burt, and the burt is a good cold water bait, but cold air is its nemesis. The one that busted had replaced the previous one that busted(a legend), and when you bust your favorite, you better be prepared, and have a replacement ready. I put a brand new(used) one into play, actually same color, though I don't particularly like that color, it seems they made a lot of those. Anyway, the action on the newbie actually shoved it to the head of its class of the backups, and of course, the backup backups. Posts: 402 Location: Eagle River, WI | I own 98 bulldawgs and super d's, 23 suicks, 18 depthraiders, 12 shallow invaders, and 17 hellhounds. I usually throw only 5-10 baits the whole day. But, musky baits are cool and they last longer than a bottle of beer.

"98" The only reason I know that is because I just counted them. I'm looking to get rid of some and I pulled them all out to see which ones I don't absolutely need anymore. But now that you mention it I should just buy two more, and keep 'em all. And wow! Those burt's have some serious hook rash on them. That's cool that you are actually wearing the baits out. Nicely done. Edited by welldriller 2/28/2010 10:16 PM

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | That's a lot of Burts! I don't think I ever saw a "Burt collection" before, lol. I always figured they were a through wire bait. Kind of scary that they seem prone to breaking between the middle and tail hook with no wire to hold things together. I guess all the better excuse to have a bunch - you can retire them before they get wore out! curleytail

| Oh, the baits we all regret! How many did you buy when you first started out, that you later looked upon as useless? Or almost useless? It can be like a jones. Normal people don't understand. And it's not just muskies. Spend a couple days fishing for something else; and you'll start to think about what you need to master them. (I'm looking at Len Thompson spoons right now. I covet them.) But take heart. It's human nature. Go into the kitchen of any amateur gourmet cook. Look at the collection of pots and pans. Look at the spice rack. "Gee..." Go to a book worm's library. Look at the bookshelves. "Mon Dieu! Could he have read all that?" | |||

| Firstsixfeet that must be a lot of hours to wear out a Burt like that. The first one in the picture looks the perfect lenght to make into a squirly model. You should modify it and see how many more fish you can catch on her. | |||

| Oh yeah, there are Burt collections!! Mine and my buddies' collections are dominated by Squirrellys though. I wouldn't say they are "prone" to breaking anywhere though. They are a tough, GREAT bait. | |||

Location: Suburban Chicago | Some of you guys have serious problems and I need to let you know I am here to help. Most muskiebaitaholics relapse not just once but many times. No matter how desperately they want to quit buying stuff, they repeatedly return to online shopping, swap meets and seasonal shows. In fact, there is a saying used in twelve-step programs and in most treatment centers that 'Relapse is part of recovery'. It is just another dangerous slogan that is based on a myth. Calling yourself a "collector" is just another avoidance strategy and will keep you off the road to recovery. COLD TURKEY is the only way to cure your problem. Thankfully I am here to help you recover and feel good at the same time. What you need to do right away is PAY THAT BAIT FORWARD to a guy (like me) who has almost no gear and is just getting going. If you need my shipping address I am happy to share it. Edited by Cheech 3/1/2010 1:50 PM

Posts: 785 | Wow Cheech that's a great offer... if I wasn't still in relapse stage I'd be wanting to take you up on that pretty bad lol. I know all about the baits a person regrets... I have a lakewood monster box at home that is full of lures I just don't want anymore. I also have two buckets lined with baits too because the box is full. It would be amazing to know how many baits I actually want I could afford if I hadn't bought all that... Btw very impressive hook scarring on those baits! I think old beat up retired baits are so cool.
