Posts: 97 Location: Pickering, ON | To tell you the truth, I think I much prefer SPRO. That being said, I don't think Wolverines are likely to fail given the triple ring, but they do open up much easier than a SPRO. Edited by JeffinPickering 3/12/2010 2:40 PM

Worth. Pretty much the same as the old Bucher rings. #7's fit just about everything.

What about the new Rosco #7 rings? They are stainless and have a black mat on them. Thinking about using these for making baits.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Bucher #5 (smaller one) and #7. If you have the room, Use the Wolverines #7 or the smaller #5 split rings. Remember that if you need a ultra strong set up a #5 will fit inside a #7. Have some of both on hand.

Posts: 20255 Location: oswego, il | I am a better fan of the bucher style rings for crankbaits, jerks and gliders as it does not restrict hook movement and bait action. The triple rings are awesome for making bucktails!

Posts: 202 | Testing split rings is really simple, take a pair of split ring pliers and grab the end of the of the coils, pull it and see what happens. Some will straighten, so will spread and some will hold pretty close to form. The ones that are the toughest to pull apart are the best. Having said that Bucher #7 are definitely the only ones I would think of using.

the one from Tackle Industries(worth) are strong enough to to caught a whale i dont use wolverine cause when you have to replace the treble hooks you also have to change the split rings btw bucher are made by worth

because they tend to be deformed when opened twice worth dont do that they will be exactly like brand new even if you change the treble x3

Another vote for SPRO! #6 seems to be the best fit for most lures. IMO they are the best rings I've used yet.

Posts: 182 Location: musky waters of SE, WI | Wolverines are nice, and you know they are strong, but they tend to spread open easily, even after opening them only 2 times. Bucher #7's for me.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | Both the SPRO and Worth (Bucher) rings are made from tempered stainless steel. And yes, expensive because the tempered stainless steel wire is expensive. Took me almost 2 years to source/find my tempered stainless steel wire in bulk to make my own rings for my lures. That stuff either has to be specially made for a company or the company has to have the equipment to make it themselves. I think Worth actually owns the equipment while SPRO gets theirs made hence the better price on Worth. Kind of odd though as I believe Worth are made in the USA and SPRO overseas but Worth has the better price. Usually the other way around ![]()
