SF 2942 - South Long Lake muskellunge stocking prohibition

Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 97C.201, is amended to read:
97C.201 STATE FISH STOCKING PROHIBITED WITHOUT PUBLIC ACCESS.
(a) The commissioner and state agencies may only stock fish in waters where there is public access. The commissioner may stock fish in any stream within privately owned lands where the public is granted free access to and use of the stream for fishing purposes.
(b) The commissioner must not stock muskellunge in South Long Lake in Crow Wing County.

More foolishness...

And the kicker is that not only does South Long HAVE a public access, but there is yet to be DNR approval to stock the lake. It's simply a proposal that has yet to go through the process that's in place to get information to people and allow for public input.

Senator Koering is the author of this bill.

He needs to be hearing from people to have the bill killed before he wastes anyone's time. Let it go through the process that's in place that allows the public to be heard on a public resource.

The few that cry the loudest seem to be anti Muskie, there is an organized effort against anything Muskie in MN.

If Muskie anglers could join together and forget about old issues and actually realize the fishing is not going to be this good forever without a the pressure of a large group.

MI just doesn't have the members like DU or PF to be taken serious, we have the anglers that spend piles on baits they'll never use but nothing on representation for the fish.

Whats it gonna take free membership, no stocking, dead lakes, remnant fisheries, holes in every other fish you catch, 28 inch average, how bad does it have to be before you get involved at the minimum level, does anyone here feel spearing Muskies in MN is going to be a good thing? because they are coming and this aint scare crap its happening and you'll lay in compliance and ride it out till the 50# fish are piled up on the ice, then complain.

Ive heard 150,000 Muskie anglers in MN but few do anything to be counted and stop this anti Muskie effort, to them you are all a joke.

We need a 50,000 pound hammer to cross the eyes of these anti Musky freaks.

WOW - I wonder what you would have written using your real name.

Wih regards to SF2942 - this might be a new all time low. This bill actually prevents public comment from being taken on a singular issue at the local level. This bill screams anti-democracy and should scare the HE(double hockey sticks) out of everyone.

I think Muskies Past has some good points. A small group is screaming the loudest and getting politicians to move on their requests. This is just a different tactic, typically it seems MI works with DNR, the people that actually know the resource. As he said, it would be great to have a large group representing muskies in our state, with all the muskie anglers accounted for so that real numbers can be talked about, not just survey estimates.

You also hit it on the head that this is just an attempt to bypass a good democratic system in place. This is getting ugly.

This is bad news. Everyone needs to voice their opinion on this.
They are doing everything in their power to eliminate the MN Muskie Program.
If you fish in MN you should be aware of the problems that we are having here and get involved.
Bans trying to be lifted, lakes that are stopped from being stocked, and threats are only the beginning.

Aaron,

I am excited to join your Chapter, and join these battles with you guys. Why are muskies always labeled the "bad guys"? Especially by the many of the same walleye/perch fishermen who have no problem keeping double limits to fill their freezers. You will have a HUGE ally in me, and I look forward to helping you guys out in the near future.

Tom,

We definitely look forward to having you on our side! It's always good to have some fresh ideas and maybe you'll have some thoughts from what you may have experienced elsewhere in OH and WI. Never a dull moment....

Ghost hit it on the head. The problem is, and I am robbing this from a talk I was at, it might have been Dick Pearson who said it, I can't remember. "the glory days of musky fishing are right now" It is too good, and people have gotten compacent. Muskies inc membership numbers are decreasing, chapters are dissolving, but all the surveys indicate that the number of people that fish for muskies are increasing. Why is this? Musky fishing got this good in MN due to the hard work of Frank Shnieder, and many others who shoved catch and release down everyone's throats until it stuck. Now we know that they were right, and thank them for it every time we fish these great waters.

My point being that we can't sit around and let other groups send us backwards. Please,Please! get involved with your local muskies inc chapter, so we can build our numbers, and push back these threats. You can't have something for nothing.
If you sit by and let these politicians pass bills like this, it stes a pesidence(spelling?). This type of legislation could spill over into all aspects of our lives. We don't want that!

I'll use my real name here, but I want to know who ghost is. I can tell he's an ally, so step up!
