| arghhhh, very frustrated.
I lost 2 bonified 4 footers last week on LOTW on glide baits, one on a phantom, the other a squirko which I got working really sweet-long glides). I just started using glide baits this season with a 6'6" ST.Croix. In the past I have been a 7'6" and 8' user for topwater and cranks (my previous mainstay). Getting on the glide bait wagon, I am moving some very nice fish, but hoopkups are fer crap. I tried to work these baits with the long rod, can't do it as good as with the short one.
I know of one problem I need to fix, that is to completely fill up my spool on my C4, too many reties has it not at capacity, thus not as fast a retrieve.
My buddy is trying to tell me to reel first, then set. I just can't get into that groove, too used my longer rods "sweeping" that much more line and contacting fish sooner, I set then reel (actually at the same time), always worked with cranks before.
For those that have fished and hooked-up with gliders what do you do on the initial strike:
reel up fast, then set
set, then reel
which way is best to set with a short rod, down or up??
Thx in advance.

| Greg,I reel then set.Make sure to keep a tight line when fighting the fish and you will be ok.One thing I have done to my gliders is to change the hooks to a smaller, heavier version. As far as up or down,a good glider should glide with a sharp turn of the reel handle. But I like a downward tap under most cicumstances. If I am working the lure in shallower water then I switch to the upward twitch.Either way you will do ok,it takes time to figure out your style.Sorry to hear about your misses, maybe I can get them in October [] .Paul |
