John- Assuming you're going to Angle Inlet (Ontario). Mapquest gives 717 miles from Chicago to Warroad MN w/ ~ 15 hrs driving time. Refueling stops+ food + border crossing + distance to Angle inlet from Warroad, I'd guess 18 hrs. But maybe one of the guy's who've actually driven it will respond.

Good Luck!

18 hrs is pretty close. I live 2 1/2 hours north of Chicago and it takes us about 16 hours pulling a boat at roughly 5 m.p.h. over the speed limit to get to Young's Bay where we launch the boat.

Thanks Guys: Where is a good place to stay overnight assuming I split the drive in half over two days?

John,

Takes me about 9 hours with a boat to get to Young's from Eau Claire, WI. There are a lot of hotels along HWY 53 going through the Eau Claire/Chippewa area and there are others at some exits between here and Rice Lake. Places range from lower budget stuff like the Badger Motel (which is right by Mouldy's - home of the Hawg Wobbler, etc) to Best Westerns, etc. You can take your pick.

Lemme know if you need any help with stuff in my area and good luck on the woods.

Warning...Duluth hotels are expensive for some reason.

It took me 10hrs to get to Int'l Falls with only the necessary fast food and gas stops along the way and not pulling a trailer, from the Elgin area.

Thanks for the Heads-up Lunchie, I will be leaving from Algonquin so 10 Hrs to Intl Falls puts the time in a better perspective. Well be staying at Angle outpost Aug 10-17, I got lucky and have Doug Johnson for 5 full days[].

Jono: If the timing is right maybe we could meet for lunch or dinner

John,

Going to miss you on your way through. I'll be gone canoeing aug 9-11. It would have been fun to meet you.

Good luck up there and have fun with Doug. I'm envious of your trip. Good luck to your kid as well. This is a graduation present, isn't it?

John,

I'll be at Monument Bay Lodge from the 11th to the 18th. If you see a white Smoker craft with a blue stripe, stop by and say hi.
Good luck to you. Last year at this time, the pattern was shallow rocks. Burned bucktails and twitched cranks worked best.

Muskies to all.....Pat

Wow thats a long drive, no wonder I get so many guys coming from Chicago to fish with me. I have been told it was near 900 miles and anywhere from 11 to 15 hours. And I tought we were farther then LOTW.

Good luck on your trip and may you guys catch some hawgs.

I believe you are correct as most of the road heading here is on major highways and very little 2 lane roads. I have had guys tell me they drove 80 and 90 all the way here. [:sun:]
