I've been into making bucktails for many years and, unfortunately, have watched the price for components go thru the roof - prices are probably 4x higher than when I started about 12 years ago.

Yet, I'm an addict, so I keep buying parts and making spinners including double 10s despite the crazy prices for these big blades (and flashabou). Over the w/e I found a goldmine of awesome big blade patterns at R&H at the Milwaukee Muskie Expo so I started pulling 2 of this pattern, 4 of that pattern, oh, and I needed a few blades to make some double 12s! The price for these cool blades was clearly marked at $2, $2.50, and $2.95 - which (although high) was inline with prices I've seen elsewhere. Anyway, after making my selections (about 35 blades), I checked out. $85!!! WOW!!!

That's when I got to thinking... how in the world are these prices justifiable? I was showing a friend at work these sweet new blades today and asked him to guess how much they cost, prefacing it with a comment that they are priced pretty high. He guessed, "oh, I don't know... 50 cents a piece???" I WISH!!!

It costs me just over $10 each to make my own double 10s! So what do you guys think about these high prices? Makes me wonder if I should invest in some foundry equipment, start stamping out blades and wholesaling them myself!

Yes, I agree with you. Usually plain blades will cost less, so I am trying my hand at my own paint jobs to help lessen the cost. Surely the price of the metal can't be that high?

Location: Right Here		Unfortunately, unless you go through a China supplier, the wholesale price isn't a lot cheaper after you pay taxes and shipping. They definitely are not cheap.

Location: Twin Cities, MN		Moore Lures is the lowest I have seen for the 10 blades and others.

$ 1.30 each for 10's - gold, nickel ( 1.50 if painted, 1.95 if shaded)

Rollie's and Thorne bros pricing are pretty much the same from what I have seen.

Location: oswego, il		That is pretty cheap. I know hagensfish.com sells the #12 indiana(slightly smaller then a 10 colorado) around that with the prism style finishes.

Location: Michigan		I make my own bucktails as well and I feel making a good bait for $10-12 is a lot better than buying one for $25
